A cursory browse of this group's conversations didn't list the following "glitch" of Sunset versions of Money installed in later Windows versions.  I place this here in the hopes that it might help someone else.

Note: After installation, if you go into Windows settings, in the Apps>Installed apps window in Windows 11, the value for the installed size of Microsoft Money Plus is listed incorrectly as GB instead of MB, (something huge, 101 GB or similar). This is as a result of a sloppy coding entry in Money's installation routine meant for previous versions of Windows. This causes no issues by itself, but to correct the listed value to its actual size, you can change a single registry value:
  1. Open the Registry Editor (searching for Registry Editor in the search box after selecting the Windows Start menu button, and opening the program.)
  2. Navigate to the following, depending upon your version of Windows (64-bit or 32-bit): 64-bit Windows versions: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Money2008b or 32-bit Windows versions: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Money2008b
  3. In the right side of the registry editor window, find and select the "EstimatedSize" key REG_DWORD value.
  4. Right-click, select Modify... from the context menu, then an "Edit DWORD (32-bit) Value" window will open.
  5. Click on the radio button to change the base value from Hexadecimal to Decimal.
  6.  In the Value Data box, look at the number displayed (105603072 or similar for a decimal value). Divide that number by 1024, then replace the number in the value data box with that new smaller number, which might be 103128 (or similar).
  7. Click on OK, then close the Registry Editor.
Now, when you re-enter the Apps>Installed apps window in Windows settings, the value for the installed size of Microsoft Money Plus should now display 101 MB or similar.

Thanks, oldcoot.  It works for Win 10 as well.

Thank you.  This easily fixed a problem that I didn't know I had and which was not causing any issues.  But somehow I feel better having done it.

Thank you so much! I also confirm it works and now my first world problems and high anxiety levels can now dissolve into a tranquil pool of epsom bath salts.
Years of burden has just lifted away and I can resume recreating my years of transactions from too many low-balance idle accounts that no longer automatically load into MS Money.

I have the last UK version Money 2005 and that does not report the installation size.

I've had concerns in the past about apparent huge data files, so I went ahead and made this suggested change (thank you).   However, my downloaded/installed Money Plus folder shows only a 2 KB shortcut, with a 101 GB/MB ".exe" file nowhere in sight.   I've been using the program successfully for years on 2 different Windows 10/11 laptops, but now I wonder if I am really downloading a web-based program each time instead of opening a hard-drive-resident program.  It does seem to take a little time to open and load compared to other programs (but still much faster with my new computer).

Should I be concerned?  comments?

Ellen,

By default, Windows hides a folder in that location called "MNYCoreFiles", but if you go into Windows' File Explorer:
a. Click on the "..." elipse icon in the File Explorer Ribbon Toolbar and select "Options".
b. In the Folder Options Settings window that will open, select the "View" tab
c. In the Advanced settings scrollable box selections, scroll down to the "Hidden files and folders" folder icon and click the radio button to enable "Show hidden files, folders and drives".
d. Scroll further down the Advanced settings scrollable box selections, and uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file types" option, and uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" option.
e. Click the Apply button and acknowledge the warning that will appear, then click on Ok.
Assuming Windows is installed to "C" drive and Money has been installed to the default location path, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Money Plus.  You'll now see the MNYCoreFiles folder there, where the program and related files and folders reside.  Hope this eases your mind.

Ellen,

The "size" in question is from the "Add/Remove program" window.

>  I am really downloading a web-based program each time instead of opening a hard-drive-resident program
I don't think that is "possible" (clicking -> download program -> install -> start your money file)

I usually open money by clicking on the actual money file itself rather than clicking on the "program".

Interesting exercise.

oldcoot:   I found 12 ".exe" programs under MNYCoreFiles, with MSMoney.exe showing 64 KB.   The sum of the exe file sizes is 2,599  KB.    but maybe all the files--exe and non-exe--add up to 101?  too many to add them all up.

hleofx:  I did finally find the 101 MB under the list of installed apps (windows 11 settings/apps/installed apps), thank you.   Maybe it was 101 GB before I made oldcoot's change, but I can't confirm.

At this point, since it shows up as installed, the taskbar shortcut works and I am using the program successfully, I won't worry about it.

Thanks.
