Agentic AI API

Hi folks,

Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of time to work on this currently, but I think MicroProfile should begin exploring an Agentic AI API sooner rather than later. Unlike LangChain4j, no one in the Java ecosystem is doing serious work on this yet, so this could be an area that MicroProfile could really shine. The area is also well suited for MicroProfile runtimes.

Innovation and exploration is the unique value proposition for MicroProfile instead of spending too many cycles on relatively mature areas.

Just to get clarity, are we talking of an API, similar to what Anthropic have done with MCP and we just focus on server-side transport?

I think the MCP is an interesting area. I don't think there are any APIs required to support agentic AI. I put this item in the minutes on Monday but we ran out of time. We will hopefully get to it next week.
