First of all, I'd like to thank all the creative design teams that participated in the design of the revamped MicroProfile logo proposals.

The goal of this post is to request your feedback on two topics:

1) I would like everyone to take a look at the revamped MicroProfile logo proposals and provide your comments, opinions on them. No need to express your vote on which proposal you like the best at this point in time. Here are the revamped MicroProfile logo proposals in no particular order:

2) I would like your ideas on the voting process for the community to select the new MicroProfile logo.  Here are some:

2.1) Create a voting form (in Google Forms) requesting voter's name (mandatory), email (mandatory), and a list of 4 radio buttons each of which will be a link to a logo proposals.  User would enter his/her info and, after reviewing each logo proposal, select a single radio button indicating their choice. All votes are collected at back end and tallied to get winning proposal.

2.2) Hang voting form from 2.1 at MicroProfile.io
2.2.1) Possibly require voters to register in the MicroProfile Google community to be able to vote. The idea here would be to increase membership of our MicroProfile Google group.

2.3) Instead of 2.2, post the voting form in the MicroProfile Google community/group

And, here are some questions:

2.4) Who should be allowed to vote? everybody and anybody? or just MicroProfile Google community members?

2.5) Should the number of votes per company be fixed? My thought here is that the company with the largest number of employees could easily decide which logo proposal wins based on sheer numbers.

2.6) Should the companies, whose design teams participated in the logo proposals, be allowed to participate in the voting? My thought here is that companies will vote for their own designs.

Thank you in advance for your feedback,

Cesar Saavedra

I would suggest that the project committers and project leader are the people who vote for the logo. This would simplify the process and ensure individuals who are active/committed to the project are those that make the decision.  Just a thought....

Then it should probably use the Eclipse.org mailing list.

Another thought would be the naming for the annual Eclipse release train. That is done in Bugzilla and everyone with a valid Eclipse ID (thus at least every contributor, not just committer) is able to make suggestions.
The project leader(s) would then have Chris' duty to gather all results. Whether Bugzilla or a list like this was better to do it in a broader way, not sure, I don't think MicroProfile even has a Bugzilla instance.

Correct, MP has not established a Bugzilla instance since we are using github Issues instead...

Cesar,
General comments on the logo proposals..  The Presentation Concept pages are not consistent between the proposals.  I won't mention which ones, but I think the inconsistency provides an advantage to a couple of the proposals.  I would like to see the proposals consistent on each aspect of the proposal.

Thanks,  Kevin

Sorry to be boring, but should it be Eclipse MicroProfile rather than just MicroProfile?

I agree that it would be simpler.  However, one can be active in the community without being a committer. I'd narrow it down to those subscribed to the google group. Not sure how we technically accomplish that.

I'd like to thank the team(s) that came up with the logo options!! Choosing is going to be tough. The options I initially ruled out are growing on me. Decisions, decisions! :-)

I am kind of agreeing with John. Why don't we create a doodle voting or similar site and post the link to the googlegroup so that everyone can vote? After all, we are deciding a logo for the community. The whole community needs to get involved, not the small group.

Thank you all for your feedback. I'd like to summarize and give you all an update on tasks related to this effort.

So, the feedback was as follows:

1) Let only project committers and leaders vote
2) Use micropro...@eclipse.org mail list to send ballots for voting
3) Create a Doodle voting or Google Form and post link on MicroProfile Google Group (this group) for any community member to vote (to vote, a voter will have to log in to the MicroProfile Google group)

Option 3 got the most votes so I'll go ahead and start preparing the ballot for the voting. The ballot will request the voter to enter: 1) their name, 2) their email, 3) their choice/vote (this will be radio buttons, each with a link that will open up the PDF for the respective logo proposal). Asking for name AND email will allow us to better identify the voter (if I'm able to figure out how to collect email automatically via Google Form, I'll skip 2).  I'd like to know your opinion on whether or not you think this is requesting too much information from a voter.

I have reached out to Wayne Beaton to get clarification on the correct way to include the name of the project as part of the logo.

About the Presentation Concept not being consistent across the proposals, I have already communicated the designing teams about this.  Once I hear back from Wayne (hopefully within next couple of days) as to the correct way to include the project name as part of the logo, I'll set up a call with design team to correct both, the Presentation Concept page consistency AND the correct project name in the logo graphic.

So, this is where things are at the moment.

Thanks,
Cesar

Cesar,
I don't think that would be asking for too much information.  We don't want anonymous votes.  If people are hesitant to give their name and email,  then they shouldn't vote.  It also help prevent people from loading the ballot box with duplicate entries.  To also help remove that temptation, we should be clear on the voting page that each person is allowed a single vote.  Maybe even use that as the reasoning for the email address request (along with their name).

Design teams and I are meeting tomorrow to go over the last modifications to the revamped logo proposals.  Once the modifications are applied, voting will commence (hopefully within a week).  I have a couple of follow-up questions, for which I'd like your feedback:

1) I plan to create a thread with title [VOTE] in the Google group to kick off voting but I'd also like to send a mass-email to every member asking them to vote (and include a link to the Google Form in the email) to ensure everyone in the community is aware that voting is starting. Does anybody know the MicroProfile Google group's address? Apparently, I need to email to send out a mass email to every member of the group.

2) Also, I'd like to add a temporary announcement on the landing page of MicroProfile.io announcing voting will start and asking page visitors to go register at the MicroProfile Google Group to vote on the revamped logo (this can also be used to increase the Google Group membership). What do you think about this?  If you all are in favor of this, who can I work with to update the MicroProfile.io landing page?

3) I'm attaching a screen snapshot of the voting form I plan to use.  The link in each choice, once clicked, opens another browser tab with the PDF that contains all the information of the revamped logo proposal

Design teams held a quick all today to address feedback from threads above.  Here are my meeting notes:
============

June 26, 2017

Attendees: Jay Cagle (IBM), Theresa Nguyen (Tomitribe), Ryan St. James (Tomitribe), Alex Traboulsi (Red Hat), Cesar (Red Hat)

Design teams agreed to delete Presentation Concept pages from their proposals.

Design teams agreed to skip adding a small “TM” to logos for voting purposes.  This will be done post voting.

Teams suggest to have voting open for 2 weeks.

Is this the email to use to send mass email to every MicroProfile Google group member?

microp...@googlegroups.com

AI:

- Cesar to reach out to John Clingan to find out the Google group EMAIL to send out blast email to everyone about voting process starting

- Jay, Alex, Ryan to send to Cesar in an email updated PDFs - Cesar to update PDFs on Google drive (Alex and Ryan - DONE)

- Theresa will also Tweet about it (Tomitribe, MicroProfileIO twitter account, Theresa’s personal twitter)

We held our community marketing call yesterday to discuss revamped logo upcoming voting process.  You can find the minutes (and recording link) at the following location:

As an FYI to the community, we decided that, since this coming week is 4th of July in the US and a lot of people will be away, we will start the voting on Monday, July 10, 2017 and will run for two weeks.

Thanks,
Cesar

Cesar,

I noted in another thread that I have a talk happening on 7/26 that I would love to include stickers on.  It sounds like the earliest we'll have these results is 7/24.

WIth that in mind, would it be possible to provide links to the current artwork to have some stickers created?
