Hi,
MicroProfile 3.0 RC2 is now available.  Please review:  https://github.com/eclipse/microprofile/releases/tag/3.0-RC2

The Eclipse Review is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5.  Everything looks good from an Eclipse viewpoint.  Once we pass the Review, then I plan to create a final 3.0 release.  The Announcement from Marketing is planned for the following Tuesday, June 11.

Thanks,
Kevin

I thought we worked on version consistency a while back. Why is Metrics version "2.0.0"?  Historically we would use just Major.Minor and only add ".patch" when there was a patch. We don't have to stop this release to address this, but I'd maintain version consistency in our marketing material (major.minor) and discuss how to version our specs in a separate thread.

You missed the other thread about the missing CQs and the MP 3.0 release...  That was the reason for this 2.0.0 release....

OK, thanks. So the strategy is to keep adding zeros, LOL ;-)

The Eclipse Release Review was successful!  So, we're clear to do the final MP 3.0 release.  Any last minute comments on the RC drivers?

Do we want to time the creation of the official release with the Marketing announcement on Tuesday?  Or, is it okay to have a dark release like we did last time allowing some observant people to "pre-announce" it?

It looks like we needed to create an issue to kickstart the marketing activities...  Thanks, Ondro!

Since we've been discussing this MP 3.0 release for months, I'm going to go ahead with prepping for the MP 3.0 release.  I'll do the build and prep the maven artifacts.  Then, on Tuesday, June 11, I'll make the maven artifacts public.  This was our agreed to schedule, so I will assume that marketing will be ready to go by then.

Thanks!
Kevin

Hi,

I've created the issue because I saw a lot of confusion wihtin the makreting team here in Payara. I agree with Kevin that MP marketing should have expected that a new version of MP will be released in June and that it would most probably be a new major version 3.0.

We've decided on regular releases 3 times a year, in Feb, June and Oct a couple of months ago. The June release by default accepts new breaking changes while others generally don't so it's very probable to have a new major version each June, as it happened with MP 2.0 and is going to happen with MP 3.0. It's possible that this information wasn't distributed to the MP marketing team. If yes, we should fix it now and in the future.

Kevin, do you follow some formal process of kicking off preparations for a new release? Can we add a step to inform MP marketing about a new release behind the corner?

Ondro

Thank you for keeping up with the written process Kevin and Ondro! :)

Follow up initiated via ticket (s).

Ideally in the future, a release ticket will be created by the technical MicroProfiler and submitted to MKTG Repo with a short message to the general MP forum with such submission update. :)
Anyone who is active & able to help with future MP release, the steps are currently not documented YET we will document this time around to set expectations on what section does what/how/when directly via that simple wiki that will be hosted under Mkth Repo wiki.

Cheers,

thank you, Ondro!  I see that he beat me to the punch on creating the issue, but by only 16 minutes...  :-)

Really?  MP 3.0 has been discussed for months and we don't have a work item created for the announcement yet?  I'll create one, but this sounds like a broken process.  If a github issue is required before any work commences, then somebody from Marketing should have created this issue a long time ago...  imho

Hi Marketing team,
Are we ready for the MP 3.0 announce on Tuesday?  I just posted this on our main google group.  Looking for advice on when and how to cut the final release.

Thanks!

Great idea! I suggest we make "raise a marketing issue to announce the new release" part of our release process to avoid any future confusion. Thoughts?

Thanks
Emily
