Dear all,

I am pleased to let you know that I was invited to be part of EclipseCon France program committee. I will be helping with setting up a track on MicroProfile/EE4J for the forthcoming EclipseCon France 2018 (June 13-14). The conference size is about 260 attendees. My main focus is to create a rich program to drive interest specifically around MicroProfile and EE4J and then hopefully draw a large audience to attend.

It will be great if Eclipse MicroProfile can sponsor this conference to promote MicroProfile. I see this is very important. If it goes well, we might be able to influence EclipseCon Europe. Here has more details on the sponsorship.

I read the last week's meeting minutes sent by Cesar and I saw this conference is on the list to attend. I also briefly mentioned the sponsorship on Tuesday's MicroProfile bi-weekly call, so Cesar and Theresa knew this already.

Please have a discussion on your weekly call and reach out to EclipseCon France.

Thanks
Emily

Eclipse MicroProfile marketing

In addition to covering EclipseCon France on today's call, I would like a few minutes as well to cover "The Index" a new open community "by developers for developers" conference in San Francisco this Feb.

Cesar - I will post and send you charts to see if we can cover on today's call (time permitting). I have four charts. We have some community building opportunities for MP and want to brainstorm with team if we should do something united at THE INDEX. Talk soon. AK

I would like to add some more details around a Microprofile track and sponsorship at EclipseCon France.  The Eclipse Foundation would like to suggest the following:

- EclipseCon France would have a dedicated track dedicated to Open Java. This would include Microprofile, EE4J, OpenJ9, Vertx and other Java runtime technology hosted in the Eclipse Foundation. The focus would be MP and EE4J.
- The dedicated track would include 2 days of sessions and 1 day of unconference. During the unconference we would have dedicated rooms for EE4J and MP.
- We would ask 2 other individuals from the EE4J and MP community to join Emily on the program committee to select the content for the track
- For sponsorship, we see there are two options: 1) companies from the MP and EE4J communities agree to sponsor EclipseCon France. The corporate sponsorship would be like a normal sponsor so you would be a booth, logo placement, etc. Companies would be encourage to demonstrate and promote MP and EE4J from their corporate booth, or 2) the MP and EE4J community pool their money to have MP and EE4J as the named sponsor.  This would give a booth that could be used to promote MP and EE4J.  For either option, we would need to have 20K Euro in sponsorship dollars to justify the dedicated track. FWIW, the sponsorship range from 2K-5K Euro for each individual company.

I would recommend the MP community proceed with option #1. I think it provides an opportunity to showcase MP and EE4J plus showcase the commercial implementations.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Ian

Is there any interest in this proposal for EclipseCon France?

Hi Ian:

Hope all is well.

We at IBM are very interested in the dedicated track to Open Java and think it is an excellent idea. We would support $5K+ budget. I am hoping a few other MP members also will support so we can hit the 20K Euro estimate below. We can cover/try to close out on this week's MP marketing call.

Can you please clarify which quarter you would need funds? Would this be submitted Q2 or Q318? I can ensure we secure dollars in right quarter.

It is great to hear IBM is interested.  EclipseCon France is in June 2018 so we would need agreement in principle before the end of 2017 and signed sponsorship agreements before end of Q1. btw, the cost are in Euros not $$ so it would be 5k Euros for a high level sponsorship.

Thanks Ian. I will allocate the funding as a Q1 expense. It will be a good discussion point for the MP call: Hoping to see if three or four other MP companies - Red Hat, Oracle, others also think it is a good idea and to contribute some dollars .. AK

Hi Ian,

Sounds like a great idea.

Just to make sure I understand correctly, for this amount, Red Hat would get a booth, logo placement, etc., from which we can promote our own MicroProfile implementation, right?

Red Hat would support 5K Euros toward the 20K Euro dedicated toward the Open Java track.

Thanks,
Cesar

I wanted to follow-up on the EclipseCon France plans. Thank you to IBM and Red Hat for indicating their support of a Java track at EclipseCon France. Unfortunately we were not able to get enough support from the overall community to have a dedicated track. However, the EclipseCon France program committee does plan to have lots of Microprofile and EE4J talks so there will definitely be a lot of content for enterprise Java developers.

Regards
Ian

Hi Ian,

Tracy Miranda (EclipseCon France programme chair) and I (Programme committee member) have been talking about this in the past few days. We are going to set up this track after all, with me as being the responsible person for this track. We are finalising the track description next week. I am sorry that somehow the message was passed to you in a timely manner. I am looking forward to working with you on this.

Thanks,
Emily

doh. I realised I made an obvious typo: It should be: I am sorry that somehow the message was NOT passed to you in a timely manner. By the way, Ian, Tracy will sync up with you soon.

Thanks

It is official. https://www.eclipsecon.org/france2018/cfp is open for submission. There is a dedicated track for MicroProfile and EE4J. I will post a message on MicroProfile google group as well.

Thanks,
Emily
