- Keep it simple, streamlined, yet robust.
What does this mean? Take the way Skills are used in Md20. There are
only four of them yet they encompass almost every situation
imaginable. To use a skill you simply roll 1d20, add the Skill rank,
add your Stat bonus, and see if it's higher than your target number.
A very robust yet simple mechanism!
- Try to stay compatible with D&D 3.5 System Reference Documentation
(SRD) http://www.d20srd.org/
The SRD is the core rule set for D&D 3.5. With D&D 3.5 came the Open
Game License which allowed anyone to create things compatible with the
D&D 3.5 SRD without violating copyright infringement. Things like
adventure modules, game aids, and even whole rule sets like Md20 and
Pathfinder. The idea behind Md20 remaining compatible with the SRD is
that gamers can use Md20 as their rule set while still using OGL
products with out having to do significant conversions. Being able to
grab any OGL product and use it with Md20 is one of many things that
makes it so great.
