webcam works on certain programs but only black and white

Hi I have an Acer Aspire 5051 and have installed Ubuntu 8.10....I have
installed the drivers for my webcam Microdia Sn9c201 its model and
make are 0c45 : 6260 and now it works on Mplayer output test video and
aMSN...but I only get black and white video output and also it is
detected as a webcam in Skype but does not work when i test it....what
is wrong and how can i possibly fix it?

The black and white issue is related to known bugs with setting
saturation. for skype make sure you are preloading libv4l properly.

thank you very much, but after playing around with linux for a week...a
found it to be really good but still dont think I'm ready to fully
switch to it...so I'm still back to using Vista at the moment (since I
got the original for free from college) only using open source software
on it...I hope Linux will become much more easier to use in the future
that I can finally switch over in full.
