Meter is a metric measurement slightly longer than a yard; thus, a 100-meter dash might take you a second longer than a 100-yard dash. But the word has a different sense in music, where people aren't separated by whether they use the metric system. For a musician, the meter is the regular background rhythm, expressed by the "time signature" written at the beginning of a piece or section: 2/2, 2/4, 3/8, 4/4, 6/8, etc. Within a meter, you can create rhythms that range from the simple to the complex. So, for example, "America the Beautiful" is in 4/4 meter (or "4/4 time"), but so are most of the rhythmically complex songs written by Paul Simon, Burt Bacharach, or Stevie Wonder. In ordinary conversation, though, most people use "rhythm" to include meter and everything that's built on top of it. In poetry, meter has much the same meaning; however, poetic meters aren't named with numbers but instead with traditional Greek and Latin terms such as iambic and dactylic.

The Division of Parking realizes the need to close meters for construction-related projects or special events at various locations throughout downtown. As a result, the Division of Parking has developed the Parking Meter Permit Program which offers several different types of meter permits, depending on the event and the length of time the permit is needed. This permit is designed to make legal parking more convenient by having the parker pre-pay the meter fee in return for a permit that is to be displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle.

A new Request for Service Application form (referred to as Application) must be submitted for every water/sewer connection, including transferring service to a new location, regardless of prior connections to an existing address or account holder history PRIOR to receiving utility service. A Service Initiation Fee, in accordance with the current schedule of rates, fees, and charges, will be due for the processing of any new application and meter install. See the Utilities Handbook, Schedule B: Miscellaneous Rates, Fees & Charges for details.

The Village of Western Springs is replacing obsolete, manual read water meters and/or external reading devices with new advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). The Village has contracted with Water Resources, Inc. and its affiliated company, Water Services Co., to replace all water meters 7 years or older, and all exterior endpoints.

The City of Longmont conducts an annual maintenance program to replace water meters on a scheduled cycle to ensure measuring accuracy. This ensures that each water customer receives an accurate bill and pays the appropriate amount for water consumption. Scheduled meter replacements are typically installed at no cost to the property owner (restrictions may apply).

If the water meter is located in a pit outside of the home, a City employee or contractor will knock on the door before beginning work to let the resident know who they are and why they are working on their property. If the resident is not home, the technician will proceed with work in the pit.

If the water meter is located inside the home, the resident will receive a notification letter by mail requesting that an access appointment be scheduled with Water Utilities. It is important that this appointment be scheduled in a timely manner to avoid any disruption of water service.

Tip: through the meter maintenance program, single-family home and multi-family duplex owners have the option to move a meter that is located inside their home to an outside pit for a reduced fee. Learn more in our Meter Relocation brochure or call Water Utilities for process and cost information.

If you are experiencing problems with your water meter or do not know where your meter is located, please contact Water Utilities Monday through Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. For after hours emergencies involving a water meter, please call Longmont Police Dispatch.

The City of Cloquet will be replacing the water meter inside your property in the upcoming months. The existing water meters have reached their end-of-life and will be replaced with a meter that has more advanced technology allowing the city to improve service to customers while decreasing labor and costs.

Water meters are being replaced at no cost and the City's contractor, HydroCorp, is performing all notifications, installations and scheduling of appointments. Mailed notifications will include instructions for scheduling installation appointments by phone or online.

As of July 1st, 2019 the Transportation Fees, Charges, and Fares resolution passed by Montgomery County Council will affect the parking fees you are charged for this program. The rate resolution establishes two fees for Meter Bagging program which had not existed before. These fees are in addition to the hourly rate charged for the lost revenue as a result of the meter bag/removal and offset administrative, materials, and labor expenses incurred by the county for this work. Specifically, for this program, this rate resolution establishes:

The removal of a parking meter remains at the discretion of the Division of Parking Management based on the impact of scheduled work and risk of damage to the equipment. As an example of these new fees is as follows: for a single meter bagged or removed for one entire day at a posted rate of $2.25/hr (Bethesda). Your project costs will change based on location, number of meters and duration.

Dual True Peak and RMS meters, supplemented by max and current text readouts give you essential feedback on levels and overloads. Choose between different scales/systems: Non-Linear, Non-Linear 2x, Linear, Linear 2x, K-20, K-14, K-12.

When performing compliance tests on non-OBD vehicles, a credentialed tester must use a SAE J1667-compatible smoke meter to conduct the smoke opacity test. Another component of the Clean Truck Check compliance test for non-OBD vehicles is the visual inspection. Credentialed testers must use the Vehicle Emissions Control Equipment Inspection Form to conduct the visual inspection.

To obtain information on smoke meter manufacturers that have declared that their meters meet the SAE J1667 specifications, visit Smoke Meter Manufacturers. It is the responsibility of a credentialed Tester to coordinate with a smoke meter manufacturer to ensure that their specific smoke meter model is SAE J1667-compatible. The SAE J1667 Recommended Practice Snap Acceleration Smoke Test Procedure for Heavy-Duty Powered Vehicles are also available.

Please ensure that you are using US currency in the accepted forms. Pennies, coins from other countries and tokens are NOT accepted. If there is a visible jam and you can see coins stuck in the slot, DO NOT continue inserting coins. That will make the jam worse and it will not give you any time. Park in a different meter, if possible and report the meter as broken.

If the meter is working properly, it will read "00:00". If the screen is blank, it is likely the battery is dead and it will not register time when coins are inserted. Do not insert any more coins and move to a different meter if possible. Report the meter as broken.

When a meter is jammed it will display the word "JAM" and when the meter has a low battery is will display "LOW". If you see anything other than the normal clock ticking down time, DO NOT insert any more coins and move to a different meter if possible. Report the meter as broken.

DO NOT park in a meter that has been bagged. These meters have been paid for and reserved for specific people or events. If you were not specifically authorized to park there, then you are not allowed to park there. You may be ticketed and towed if you are not authorized to parked in bagged meters. You will need to find another meter to park in.

Check the meters to either side and use process of elimination to find the correct number. If you are unable to do that, pay for the nearest meter that you can read and report the meter as broken. Include which meter you actually paid for so you don't get a ticket.

The wheel will not turn green because the meters are not connected to internet, therefore there is no way for the mobile payment to communicate with the meter itself. Enforcement officers check an online system that shows which vehicles are paid.
