We're doing very well, concentrating on putting as much joy as we can into every day that we awaken together.  Stan loves being on the strand in his wheelchair at the beach for 2-3 hours almost every day.  He goes to the Venice Pier and keeps a count on the Pelicans and dolphins and sea lions.  It's his own zoo that he shares with all the fishermen.  Stan is weak and suffers from pain in his legs and back.  He absolutely hates the collar that is necessary to keep his broken neck in proper alignment, but we are hoping that he'll be able to take that off after his Dec 18 x-ray.  He is happy to be off the restrictive kidney diet and enjoys eating whatever he wants at many different restaurants as well as at home.  Those of you who really know him will understand the horror of having had to give up Coca Cola and Pepsi!  He enjoys opening the mail with all of your wonderful cards and loving notes. I'm keeping everything in a large envelope and we re-read them.  He occasionally sits at the computer to read email, but it's best to send him notes at my email address and I read everything to him and save them in a computer folder.  Tamara Eskenazki now has an apartment in our building, and they frequently meet and discuss articles and texts about a whole range of topics that are well beyond my comprehension.  They are working together on Stan's book #4 on Judaism's response to Evil, but focus is difficult for Stan and the actual writing has mostly been set aside.  He no longer teaches the Zoom Chevre Torah class, but he attends and makes comments and enjoys the fact that the students are continuing with Tamara and a sestudent Rabbi who has been a member of the class for a number of years.
We go to Services on Friday nights when it is not a family night - neither of us can take the commotion of all of the children!!  Shoshana sends us daily videos from Israel or New York or South America or Mexico and we play "where in the world is Shoshana" and we talk frequently.  Occasionally she includes Santa Monica in her itinerary and brings Joshua with her.  Gabriel likes to visit and play golf in LA.  James is busy in his 3rd year of med school, but we do speak with him regularly. Ronn watches Dolphins football games with Stan at our house with pizza on Sundays or Mondays and also likes to walk with us on the beach with Nicole and their 2 daughters and their dog.  Their family is off to Poland now for a week.  Ronn wants his daughters to visit Auschwitz before Beth goes off to college in the Fall. Daughter Hannah is traveling all over Southern California and beyond with her Club Soccer team with Ronn as her chaperone, so we have to also play "where in the world is Hannah?"Aviva is here to handle any problems at any time of the day or night and we love going to her house for family meals.  Her son Cole walks every Saturday morning with Stan and handles all of our computer issues with amazing speed and competence. Her daughter Mya is doing the first semester of her senior year of college at the University of Mannheim in Germany, and Zeke is settled into his life in Austin working for Tesla.  He's coming home for 48 hours for Thanksgiving and we are thrilled to have time with him.
The hospice crew takes care of Stan on a regular basis, and we have 24/7 caregivers, thanks to our generous children, with an agency that works closely with Aviva to make certain that there is always a competent, strong man taking care of Stan and helping with some household chores.
And I do the best I can to keep the household running, I try to swim as regularly as possible, I continue to attend various events at Wilshire Boulevard Temple with Sisterhood, with adult education events, with various online book clubs and a film club - although I must admit that I always read the books and watch the films, but I don't always make it to the meetings!  We go out with a few friends for lunches and dinners.  I keep busy with 1000 piece puzzles and just try to spend some quiet times every day with Stan talking or watching some of our favorite TV series together.  My bed is up close to Stan's hospital bed and we hold hands.
Please smile when you think about Resa and Stan enjoying these hospice days together with our friends and our beautiful family.

Love and hugs all around,
Have a Great Day and enjoy every day,
Resa
