Hi Team!

It's basically summer which means it's almost time for football!!

I want to get working on finding us a house for the Michigan-Wisconsin football weekend. A lot of you have said you're definitely in, but some weren't sure, so I'm reaching out to see what you're thinking.  Now that we're old ladies, I don't think anyone will be happy sleeping on a make-shift bed, so I want to get a head count so we can find a house with the right number of beds/rooms to accommodate us all.

Here are the people who said they're def in... I'm assuming that's still true.  If you're not on that list, and plan to come let me know as soon as you can.  I want to book next week.

Feesh here.  There aren't many houses available that are close to the big house and have space for 10+ people.  I put in a request for one house that said it was available on VRBO, but the owner got back to me and said it wasn't.  I found this house: https://www.vrbo.com/4191077ha which is available for instant booking.  This means that I put in my credit card and if the owner approves us, we're set and I'm charged.  

I just spoke with the owner and the cancellation policy is 30 days, full refund, so I figure it's probably good to book this and if we need to make a change, for whatever, reason, we can, but at least we have something.  The house looks nice and updated.  It's just off main street and easy walking distance to the stadium, though not perfectly ideal for tailgating, but we can walk.  There are 5 bedrooms with big beds, which includes one sleeper sofa, so we can pick out of a hat or something for who gets each room.  This will accommodate the 10 people who already said they were in, and we can figure out air mattress situations or other alternatives for anyone who decides they want to come down the road.

The pricing is as follows: 

1500/night

200 cleaning fee

96 tax

176 service fee (VRBO)

250 refundable deposit

total: 3722 (including refundable deposit, so if we get that back it's $3472 total)

Payment is made in installments with 1824 due now, if we're accepted and the rest due in September 2-3 weeks out.

What do you guys all think?  If the charge goes through, with the 10 people who are def in, it would be $182.40 each for now.  If more people end up coming, we can adjust what's owed when I need to pay the second payment.

It looks like one of the bed options is a sofa bed...unless I'm reading wrong, not sure people are going to want to sleep in the living room...

One of the options is a sofa bed, the description says it's in the den/study.  I'm not sure if that's the general living room or if that's a separate room.  I can talk to the owner again and see what she says.  I know it's not ideal but it's the best I could find that's available right now.  There are few houses that have 5 bedrooms, and some of the ones that do have a kids room with a small twin bed, or are far from the stadium/campus.  We may have to compromise in one area.  I looked on gamedayhousing.com and they don't have houses big enough in the location we'd want.  VRBO/Homeaway and Air BnB had limited options too.  There are some houses that are bigger but are also much  more expensive, we can look into those but I don't know that it's worth spending so much more.  I'm open to suggestions if you find something that looks better!

I'm good with you booking. Maybe we have the peeps in sofa bed pay less and pick out of a hat to determine who has that room.

totally get it, but wanted to point that out...

 

Think it's worth reaching out to the owner to ask. We can still book it and decide, once we have all the info. We all may want to opt to spend a little more if the sofa bed is actually in the living room..

 

I also have two hotel rooms booked I believe at the Sheraton, that my parents were originally going to use and are now not...worse case scenario maybe we can get two more..

Hi, the sleeper sofa is in a separate den that has a door and has an attached half bath so it's actually a decent room to sleep in.
