I talked to John's son, Zach, and he confirmed it.
But i don't know the details. John worked the overnight
portion of our pinball show and he was in great spirits.
He was supposed to stop by with his son a couple
weeks ago and didn't show. i didn't read anything into
that, probably unrelated.

John was always a great guy and someone i trusted.
His insights were always welcome and spot on.

I know you're not reading this John, but damn dude,
what the hell???  RIP.

your friend, clay.

Hi Clay,

Thank you, I wasn't sure.   This is a shock.   Was it an accident or illness?  I saw John at MPE and at the Showcase, he seemed just fine, great spirits, usual self.

This is really sad.   You will be missed greatly John.

Mark I'm really struggling with this.
I wanted to ask his son what happened, but i know that may not
be appropriate. If anyone has any details please email me directly
or post. cfh at provide.net

I always kidded John about smoking that he should quit, because
it takes 10 years off your life. Looking back on that, i was really
wrong on that front!  Damn it John, we were supposed to grow
old flipping on crappy pinballs and drinking Jack. what the hell
did you do dude????

John was my supportive hero.
when ever i needed a good quick kick to the head
with some personal advice, he always set me straight.
he never steered me wrong. his insights were straight
forward and to the point, no pussy whipping bullcrap.

I wish John came to the club more. He really made a
difference in my life, and I bet, the life's of others. He
was a solid dude, strong and free of bull crap. Where
I have to walk on eggshells around a lot of people,
there was none of that with John. He always told you
what you needed to hear, and in a way with out any BS.

I need more "John Dubbs", not less. A sold dude has
fallen. Life is not better on this day, nor will it be better
in the future. Damn it John, what the hell???

What happened?  Words like "what the hell did you do dude" makes it seems like something bad happened in the way he died.

Hi Clay,

I'm still can't believe it!  He was working his tail off on that cabin up north.  That's why we didn't see him very much at pinball events.  The cabin was his big retirement getaway.  John seemed like he never ran out of energy.  Working long hours and spending all his free time working on the cabin.

I remember meeting him for the first time at a DPL night hosted by Greg.  JP and I were first time guests and JDubbs made us feel like we were members.  Never forget that night and how welcome he made us feel.

This is a big loss for the community.   He was a mover and shaker, no hold barred, always honest and genuine!

No one knows exactly what happened, but it had to have been sudden.

Clay is expressing his shock in his own way. This was unexpected, nobody knows what happened.

And we may never know. Not that anyone is entitled to know...

RIP Dubbs!

My first intro to the brand new Detroit Pinball League was in the "Fire Hazard Arcade" aka John's basement.

It took awhile for me to get to know and appreciate John. He was a person I trusted - one of a very few.

He lived life Full Throttle and knew it. A great guy who will be missed.

I spoke to Dubbs a few times this past month, including late last week. Seemed like pretty normal Dubbs.
He recently wanted to sell Roller Games and XMen. I think he sold Roller Games. I wanted to buy XMLE, but I'm moving so purchasing is on hold.
It sounded like he wanted to use the money to buy a Margarita Girl double cup slushie machine for up north. He also convinced me to want to buy
a Margarita Girl double cup slushie machine. Not sure how he died yet. It sure shook me this morning though.

I am shocked to have read the news of his passing today. John and I had so many great adventures together. All the fun we had along with Scott Freeman starting the Detroit Pinball League, Pinbrawl tournies, pinball shows or just hanging out at The Fire Hazard Arcade.

Dubbbs lived life by his own rules and never gave two shits what anyone thought about it. He was as good a friend as any I've ever had in life and I regret not taking him up on that offer to visit up north a few weeks ago.

Through it all, if anything, I am sure John would want us to remember one thing in his passing.

NO SNIVELING!

We'll all see you soon in that cosmic gobble hole my friend. Keep a credit on deck for us.

I posted on MPL, but Scott, J.M and I will be at the visitation today from about 4:00, in case anyone is interested in being there with fellow DPL members.

I probably don't need to tell everyone what John meant to the DPL.  Together with Mick and Scott, they had the vision and put the league together in 2007, I believe.  John posted a Detroit area cattle call on RGP and was kind/brave/stupid/generous enough to allow people he had never met to come to his basement for the inaugural meeting.  I reviewed the old post recently to sort of remember what he did for all of us.   Pinball was an important part of John's life and it is a good thing that we are all enjoying the fruits of his vision and work.

If it hadn't been for John, I probably wouldn't know most of you, and I consider a lot of you among my good friends now.  Something to think about today.
