I love honey crisps!  I didn't even know what they were until my daughter had a unit on apples last year so we had to buy a whole bunch of different apples and fill out a graph about the similarities and differences and that one was our favorite.

Ok, I just bought a "bag of red delicious" apples.  If you buy them individually they're as big as your fist but 7 or 8 cost about $10!
The pre-bagged kind are tiny but they give 100 of them and it only costs $4

What's up with that?

Granny Smith apples are the best ones to make PIE

They don't get mushy and they stay a bit tart, best with a caramel drizzle and homemade crusts.

I think you're thinking of Golden Delicious, where they have a bit of green tinge but not exactly, a tart start but finish sweetly. Those usually have 'freckles' on them and can range in color from pretty greenish to almost bright yellow.

I gotta look for them out here.  I just discovered Pacific Rose apples, which were amazing in the spring - big, juicy, and sweet.  The Pacific Rose ones I got the other day were smaller and not as yummy.

Apple discovery is a whole new thing to me, since I've been allergic to apples (any fruit with an edible skin, really...) for about the past 15 or so years.  Now that I can eat fruit again, I'm going all sorts of crazy trying new varieties.

I will!  Everytime we "try" to organize a Pittsburgh Fark party, her, me and 4 other people are the ONLY ones to EVER show up (it's all very depressing).  We've even given up posting threads about them and we simply e-mail each other because it got too annoying seeing nothing but the "Steelers Fat Girl Picture" in every thread :|

Oh lawdy.....

The DFW people post threads, but Green D always sends out an email to a bunch of us so we can go squeeze out the whiners.... "Waaaaah how come you didn't do it MY way waaaaaaaah!!!"  :)

Anyway.  I'm so glad you're takin care of my girl.... I miss her.

Tell me about it. I've been trying to drum up interest in a European
Fark party, but no one is interested. :-(

i'm still around. It's been a terrible week for my family. My Grandpa passed away Monday. His services just began on Thursday. I actually have to get up in 5 hours for the funeral, then drive 4 hours right outside of Pigeon Forge, TN for his burial service.  It has been a draining time emotionally. My Dad isn't doing well with this, and I'm sorta afraid of his reaction in the morning to the funeral. He's had heart issues today pretty bad...

And blah, i'm writing my life story here. *sigh* sorry.  Just overwhelmed at the moment.

I'll check in again when we return home...Monday.

I am so sorry to hear this.

And it's ok to share, grief is never easy.

I am so sorry Lelia

This has been a tough year or so for you, I really hope all the rough stuff is behind you now.

Your family is in my thoughts.

On the up side, I can only think of a few other places prettier and more serene to be than Pigeon Forge, TN. It is truly a place of wonder (or it was for me, anyway, and not because of Dollywood either).

HUGS

Thank you all for the hugs, thoughts and prayers. It was a difficult thing to go through, but I'm now realizing he isn't in pain anymore, and that makes it a little easier to handle. The funeral was beautiful. He had full military rights and the flag was handed to my Uncle. There are pictures we will all get in a few weeks.

My Dad made it through alright, but after the funeral, he hugged me and just lost it. We were both a sobbing mess. He has slept ever since getting home :(

Our trip went well, and was very needed. Helped me get my mind off of things. Pigeon Forge is very beautiful (and yes, we visited Dollywood lol) but you know, there's no place like home.

Let's hope the rest of the year is better!

I guess I should log into this account more often... (but I've missed a lot on the internets the last few weeks)
I'm so sorry for your loss.

I could start a conversation about the problems I'm dealing with in my life right now, health-wise and some "drama" I'm dealing with as a "Stay at home dad"
But something tells me going into all of it will make you hate yourself for asking  :)

Oh yeah... you're gonna get pounded.  And not in that awesome, shameful way.

Be careful.
