Anybody using an outboard on their boat and if so, what size, stroke
etc.? How's it working?

I put a 1.5 two stroke outboard on it but you need to run it wide open to move very fast.  I will go into a 15 mph wind but not very fast.

Hey Ed: are you ready for a hull number? Lucky #7 is next. We just need a
photo of your 3D hull. Some guy in South America is bucking for it, though.

Outboards: I have a Honda 2 horse on mine. I tried a 5 horse but it did not
make much difference.

Yes, but I think you have to apply to get a hull number.  Andrew is the keeper of numbers so he will have to decide. Anyway, nothing wrong with Laguna Ocho.

Hi Chuck, Nope, not ready yet. Been out of town for a bit. Now convincing myself it's healthy to go and work out in the cold. Get's harder to convince me every year...I believe Chip, in Michigan I think, is ready though. He's posted some photos. I shall go find my long underwear. Regards, Ed

OK I have to weigh in here and clarify a few things.

Moderated member - I seem to still be a moderated member of the group
which slows down my posting to the group. Is there a was to apply
for a member upgrade? Or do I need to log miles to earn status. :-p

First off, the name is Chad; ChipWhip is just my email address. :-)
I live in Minnesota, the Minneapolis area. Land of ice, snow, and ten
thousand lakes.

And yes, I have a completed Laguna hull. I'm vying for hull number
siete, but I could live with ocho. How do I get this hull number? Do
I need to email Andy? You can see my boat on the blog here:

--- --- Motors ---
Currently (last season), I sailed a Dovekie. It has a side motor
board, and I hung a 3.5 GameFisher there. That was more than enough
power for that 21ft 600 lb boat. I'd usually run it below half, if
you cranked it up you would get to hull speed and plow a huge wake.
Only issue was that it was a short shaft and when dealing with the
chop of wakes, it would bob in and out of the water. Short story
2-3hp is plenty for these boats. I plan to move this motor to the L7.
Just have to decide if I'm going to cut a motor well, or use a
lifting bracket I have. (Any advice?)

Chad,
I haven't seen Andrew on the net yet today....Hopefully it has stopped raining and he is building four sails today!
He will respond to your request, forthwith.

St John:  You are fallible!  The moderator is Andrew Tatton – or am I the fallible one?  Someone help….

I confess total idiocy....I don't know who is suppose to be doing it....  I remember it being discussed but don't remember who ended up with it.  Hull numbers are just not close to the top of my list. I am only a St. not the infallible Pope.

Andrew Tatton and I are both mods here. And he is the Hull # guy I
guess, though no official list exists. If you have a 3D hull, you
have 7. We are SO not going PRD on this thing lol!

Chad, I thought I set you as not moderated but I'll look.

For further outboard talk, I can tell you that my 3.5 pushes LagunoUno
at 7mph on flat water at well less than full throttle. More gas
doesn't even help, unless I'm bucking a good headwind. And as a
matter of fact, I so rarely use it that it's been broke down for
nearly a year and I still sail the boat 2 to 3 days a week.

I also put a 8hp on it as a test platform for the motor...WAY too
heavy and as you would expect, it didn't go any faster :-)
