What, nobody sailing this summer? No one working on the rigging,
modifying the rudder, putting a cabin on top?

I am putting the big 5 horse Honda on my Laguna for speed trials. I plan to
do that Sunday. I will compare the 5 to the regular 2 horse motor to see
which makes sense.

I'm very interested in the results. I hope you test at 1/3, 1/2, 2/3,
and full throttle (or whatever settings make sense to you.) I'm
pretty sure you'll start sliding along at 8mph pretty easily. I'm
interested in what it takes to reach 10 and 12.

Will do, Andrew. The test is scheduled for Sunday morning - I will
definitely try different throttle settings. I plan to have about 700
lbs of freight (people) aboard for this test so there is no guarantee
we will hit 12 or even 10 mph. I'll let you know.

'Cause we KNOW she'll do 8 with 700 lbs and the 2-horse

You think that was 8 Andrew?  I sure hope so.

You got me to thinking, Chuck, so I went and cut up one of my pics - see if you think the lines indicate the beginning and end of the bow wave. It's a little hard to tell with the interferences of the leeboard, but the rising wave is in the same spot on quite several photos. If that's 16 ft, she should be doing between 5 and 5 1/2 knots, or about 6 mph?

Nice detective work, Andrew! And I notice that there is room for a little bit more before the wave crest reaches the transom of the boat. I’ll know a lot more Sunday and I will let you know.
