Mike and I live on a huge lake, one of largest in the U.S. We would
like to share sailing/boating on it with any of our boating friends
who would like to join us over Columbus Day weekend this year. We are
hosting our first messabout at our lake house/camp here on Lake
Eufaula, Ok.

Everything is free, camping on back grassy lot by the Boat Palace,
launching down the street and parking down street for trailers. We
have a nice day use beach and park by the boat lauch area we can use
but not camp on. We live on the only free boat launch on entire lake.

There is also a boating motel-R/V park just down road one mile (not on
water) and two Corps of Engineers launches and campsites just a few
miles, two full marinas and slips a few miles away.
Food is a continuous potluck all weekend but there are three
restaurants a mile from house, and lots more in town.

Eufaula is one of oldest towns in Oklahoma, part of the Indian Nation
that preceeded statehood, very neat old turn of century buildings,
plus a fishing/boating center in east Oklahoma. Lots of bassing and
tournaments here.

Anyone can e-mail me for more information. All boats are welcome,
homebuilt, production, canoes, kayaks, sail, motor, PDRS, etc. We
will have boat/sailing games, some "throw down racing" and we hope a
fun weekend with like minded boaters.

Love, Mike and Jackie Monies

Jackie, Mike,
I fully intend to be there with a Lagunalike ....but I do not have the soccer and school schedule yet and can not absolutely commit.
Sounds like a great event.

I will try and make it with my ‘real’ Laguna too. Like John, I can’ promise. But I will try like heck.

Hi guys,

I just wrote John Miller and Gordo directly to invite them and try and
get all the Lagunas together for this for photo ops and also to
RACE!!!!! Yeah! Andrew Linn, sadly is committed. Did I say that?

Anyone interested in the Lagunas is welcome to come join us.

I also just wrote Jim Michalak personally to invite him for the
Lagunas and the other Michalaks that we hope will be attending. We
have several who have said they would try and come.

to prevent a cascading free-for-all of stupid, like what happened in
the PDR class, I strongly suggest Lagunas never race against Lagunas.
They only race against other boats. Remember, a primary side-benefit
of being a Laguna captain is embarrassing production boats.

I second that motion and call the question!  All present hold up your hand.  Motion passes. Congratulations Fleet!  That was a forward looking and wise action for a fast open cruising, adventure, sailboat .

Now what I was actually thinking of was "Throw down racing" like
Bobby Flay on the Foodnetwork. Anyone could challenge any other boat
to a throwdown= "I think I can beat your boat, do you accept the
challenge." Kind of a winner take all, except that any other boat who
also thought they could beat the boat would join in the challenge, for
a winner take all race, kind of like dueling, except no guns, just
sailing, no handicaps. We used to run horse races like that when I
was young and hung out with quarterhorse racers who bet big amounts on
races like this. Some races had two horses or three or four usually,
all match racing and challenges.

Crazy Cajun horse racing. I thought wagers could be small things like
parts for boats, supplies, nautical stuff, in a pot, winner take all.
Then if anyone wants to they can challenge the winner, etc. Any type
boat could race any other boat, no classes.

This is about how the horse racing worked except thousands of dollars
changed hands!

Well, I will try very hard to be there with my Vector. I haven't
managed to get it into the water during October in the three years I
have owned it, and this would do nicely.

Great, this is shaping up to be a great sailing weekend, not to
mention some eating to accompany it. Our lakes are still warm here in
October so it should not be a weather problem or even a real frost
bite sail, just cool and pretty with leaves still on trees.

We look forward to seeing everyone!

I will put it down as a maybe. When the time to schedule Oct comes
maybe I will be able to make my own schedule like the real nurses ;-)
and I can get the time off. We'll see. Oct is a great time to be
around Lake Eufaula. We have been there many times. My experience is
sweater weather in the evenings and mornings, short sleeves in the
day. PERFECT for camping.
