to Michalak's Laguna
Hello all,

Just joined. I think I was the one who bought to one set of Laguna
plans after the T-200. I have been trying to decide if I want to
build a Laguna for next years T-200. I successfully did the 2009 200
on my 12' Pelican. The Pelican did well, however with its short
waterline length, it tended to pound in the chop and was rather slow.
You Laguna guys passed me a few times along the way. I only have a
12x20 shop and would probobly have to build it in pieces like the
Lagua Uno. Anyway, I am still trying to decide. Maybe following this
group will help me decide.

Best wishes,
Frank

Welcome aboard! I have Laguna plans and a set for a Dierking wa'apa, and haven't decided which (if either) to build.

Yeah, Welcome, Love that Pelican.  You did a great job.
I love my Laguna but the wa'apa is a super boat, also, but very different.
There are ways to build outside but can you fit the laguna in at a diagonal (if it is a two car garage) and still get around one end?  I just left my garage open for two months....but I am likely in a different situation than you.
JIB.

My shop is separate than my garage and the Pelican and my wife's care live in the garage. I hate to sound stupid, but what is a wa'apa?

Frank:

Given your shop size, think about a Mikesboat - this is a rugged and proven
boat that while not quite as fast as a Laguna may be more rough water
capable due to the multichine hull. I got to sail one on the Outer Banks
this spring and it is a great expedition boat.

Chuck,

If I decide not to build a Laguna, I will probably stay with the Pelican.  I will use last years experience to make a few adjustments.  Like lighten and reposition the gear load so it is not so bow heavy.  I also will build a proper whisker pole.  The Pelican did very well for a 12 foot boat, and I like the way it handles.
