I live on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic in the city of
Barahona. I need a family boat that can be used to travel around our
coast, do some fishing and have some general family adventure. I
decided that the Laguna will be the boat for us. We want a sailboat
that will also be a good match for our Tohatsu 4 stroke 3.5hp
outboard.

I have the plans, and we are going to begin cutting wood in two
weeks. We want to get the boat built by the end of January. I don't
know if this is possible, but we are going to do our best to get her
done. I have built one small boat, so this will be my second build.
I will be doing it with the help of 3 of my children. I may be back
here looking for some advice.

Sounds great.
I have no idea how much time you will be able to spend on a weekly basis but you should be able to build it by that time. Do you have a place to work, tools, and a little woodworking skill's?  Sails, masts, rudders, leeboard take as much time as the hull but ...you should be able to make that time frame.  Weather should not be much trouble.. you have 73 deg. there now..  It is getting cold up here in N. America.

Welcome Roger, and good luck. She's a very easy build, shouldn't be a
problem getting her done in that period. We did Uno in 7 weeks of
evenings and weekends. Be sure to keep us aprised and take some pics!
Especially once you hit the water.

Thanks for the encouragement. As for the weather, we don't have a
weather station here, so the weather posted on the internet is not
correct. We are in the high 80's every day here in Barahona during
the winter. We may have a day or two in the low 80's, but it is
rare. I will be building from Okume plywood and pine. It is the only
thing available here in the DR. We will start cutting plywood next
week, but my glue doesn't arrive from the states until the end of the
month. I have a little bit left over from my last build, so I will
use it until it is gone, but we will stall out for a few days until it
arrives. We are very serious about this build. We will make our
masts, but I think I will purchase a pair of sails from Duckworks to
speed up that part, and to make sure I have good sails. I'll keep
everyone apprised to our progress.

Roger,
You will do well.....I can hear it in you words.
I have Duckworks Sails for my Laguna and am very pleased and proud of them.
They have a waiting list so don't wait too long.
