Hi all, Received "Laguna" plans today. Very nice. I do have a couple
of questions requiring answers from those having experience with this
design. Is bulkhead 11.5 built as drawn? I've read what's online
regarding this issue and come away feeling I should ask. Then, could
anyone please relate their experience sailing Laguna single handed.
I'd like to think I'll have crew, but you know, those days always
come. Thanks in advance.

These details have been done as many ways as possible, Ed. John left that
bulkhead out completely but beefed up the gunnels considerably and added
stiffeners along the sides to compensate. I think this may be the best
solution for single handing as he has the run of the ship as a result. The
downside of this option is that you lose the ability to mount one mast in
the center of the boat. I added another bulkhead at 12.5 and enclosed the
area between that and 11.5 for more flotation and storage. I think everyone
else did it pretty much as drawn.

I did an enclosure like Chuck only 10 inches. It serves as a central
location for dry storage and electrical distribution, as well as
reserve buoyancy. .I really like it.

Gordo,
You are a good sailor and boat builder.  I was impressed with your boat handling on the Texas 200.  I had thought you a beginner.... Not!

Thanks John. One thing about almost any thing requiring "experience"
as sailing does...you can get that experience sailing many weekends
per year over several decades....or you can sail 3 or 4 days a week
over a year and a half. Either way you get a feel for what's up, and
I suspect my way I've seen a broader set of conditions. I sail
regardless of the weather (well, almost) so there's little the Gulf
Coast can send at me I haven't seen. Of course...I don't imagine
myself any sort of "expert", for one thing I'm LOST if a boat doesn't
have a balanced lug rig! Case in point my Irwin 28...total mystery to
me :-)
