One year ago, The Upstart Creatures hosted their first event: a day-long reading of our adaptation of John Milton's Paradise Lost, cut down to a mere nine hours, plus two multi-course meals prepared and served by the company. The whole thing was free, and we couldn't have done it with you.
In the meantime, we've been busy. We completed two writers retreats at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, continuing our adaptation of Milton's epic poem. We conducted two sessions with novelist Lisa Schwartz on her new book Bob, Uncovered (more on this service we offer writers soon).
And, most excitedly, we've decided to mount another feast of food and art. We're currently looking for plays that prominently feature food, which we'll produce with their corresponding meal element in New York City in the 2014-15 season. If you've got any thoughts about what the Upstarts' first full-produced piece should be, send them our way at upstartc...@gmail.com.
Be on the look out for information about our upcoming benefit, Monday, June 30th, where we'll announce next year's play/meal event as well as all the Upstarts' exciting future plans.
Thank you for all of your support as patrons, audience members, and guests at our feast.
