Great, great, and great.  I would say $50/actor is fine for something that is such a little commitment.

Given that you each have so much more familiarity with this piece, would you mind putting together a brief cast breakdown (three lines, tops, example below) for each character to help me in the casting process.

Is it important to you that these actors are/identify as Jewish?

For example

Michael (40's) - eccentric, lovable except when he's not, opinionated, headstrong but wants to be collaborative, queer in that sometimes femme sometimes masc way.

If I can get that by December 9th that will give me plenty of time to cast.  I'm also happy to take care of paying the actors - I've got a sole proprietorship set up that will take care of that once you venmo or zelle me the $$.

All good?

Hi!

I was thinking this would be actors you could pull together. I can’t remember how much you mentioned people would be paid, but you named a number and I remember thinking that was good. I am thinking people will speak English, except for the few places where I have them speaking Yiddish. And yes, singing Yiddish. I very much like the idea of playing the songs in between the dialogue. As to the final question, I promise to answer that at another time. I’m heading into the food co-op now. 😀

Hey love - this is totally thrilling.  I've got a crazy sched until weds, so please accept my apology for not being to look at it before then. happy to do a session end of next week before our reading on the 14th. Speaking of which...
  1. Is the plan to get to actors from the concert itself to read the draft?
  2. Should we take breaks in between the snippets of dialogue to play the songs from the concert so that we can have a sense of how it all fits in together
  3. Really stupid question: the dialogue will be performed in english and the songs in Yiddish?
  4. Will the actors, regardless of who they are, be paid for the reading?
  5. How can we format/use the development session and reading in a way that is most useful for you, Jeyn?

hi there - I have a revised draft - all the way to the end.

IMO there are areas that are still too on the nose, and some areas that can be built out more. For example, the last scene seems like a missed opportunity. The dialogue doesn’t always (or even often?) move the plot forward, and there’s a question as to whether it has a plot yet - or whether the frame makes sense.

But I think this is a great time to stop and do some joint dramaturgy. I do not at all feel precious about the writing - rather, I wanted to get us started so we can find the threads, the themes, the style, the characters, the theatricality, the balance, etc.

I’d welcome a development session before we get actors to read it - and/or I am good to wait to hear it first. MB - what do you think about that?

XO Jeyn
