THIS IS A LONG READ AND NO MATTER WHAT YOUR POLITICS ARE YOU WILL FIND
IT INTERRESTING
The Whos down in Whoville liked people a lot,
*
But the Grinch in the White House most certainly did not.
*
He didn't arrive there by the will of the Whos,
*
But stole the election that he really did lose.
*
Vowed to "rule from the middle," then installed his regime.
*
(Did this really happen, or is it just a bad dream?)
*
He didn't listen to voters, just his friends he was pleasin'
*
Now, please don't ask why, who knows what's the reason.
*
It could be his heart wasn't working just right.
*
It could be, perhaps, that he wasn't too bright.
*
But I think that the most likely reason of all,
*
Is that both brain and heart were two sizes too small.
*
In times of great turmoil, this was bad news,
*
To have a government that ignores its Whos.
*
But the Whos shrugged their shoulders, went on with their work,
*
Their duties as citizens so casually did shirk.
*
They shopped at the mall and watched their T.V.
*
They drove a gas guzzling big S.U.V.,
*
Oblivious to what was going on in D.C.,
*
Ignoring the threats to democracy.
*
They read the same papers that ran the same leads,
*
Reporting what only served corporate needs.
*
(For the policies affecting the lives of all nations
*
Were made by the giant U.S. Corporations.)
*
Big business grew fatter, fed by its own greed,
*
And by people who shopped for the things they didn't need.
*
But amidst all the apathy came signs of unrest,
*
The Whos came to see we were fouling our nest.
*
And the people who cared for the ideals of this nation
*
Began to discuss and exchange information:
*
The things they couldn't read, in the corporate-owned news,
*
Of FTAA meetings and CIA coups,
*
Of drilling for oil and restricting rights.
*
They published some books, created Websites,
*
Began to write letters, and use their e-mail
*
(Though Homeland Security might send them to jail!)
*
What began as a whisper soon grew to a roar,
*
These things going on they could no longer ignore.
*
They started to rise up and reach out to all * Let their voices be
heard, they rose to the call,
*
To vote, to petition, to gather, dissent,
*
To question the policies of the "President." * As greed gained in power
and power
knew no shame
*
The Whos came together, sang "Not in our name!"
*
One by one from their sleep and their slumber they woke
*
The old and the young, all kinds of folk,
*
The black, brown and white, the gay, bi- and straight,
*
All united to sing, "Feed our hope, not our hate!
*
Stop stockpiling weapons and aiming for war!
*
Stop feeding the rich, start feeding the poor!
*
Stop storming the deserts to fuel SUV's!
*
Stop telling us lies on the mainstream T.V.'s!
*
Stop treating our children as a market to sack!
*
Stop feeding them Barney, Barbie and Big Mac!
*
Stop trying to addict them to lifelong consuming,
*
In a time when severe global warming is looming!
*
Stop sanctions that are killing the kids in Iraq!
*
Start dealing with ours that are strung out on crack!"
*
A mighty sound started to rise and to grow,
*
"The old way of thinking simply must go!
*
Enough of God versus Allah, Muslim vs. Jew
*
With what lies ahead, it simply won't do.
*
No American dream that cares only for wealth
*
Ignoring the need for community health
*
The rivers and forests are demanding their pay,
*
If we're to survive, we must walk a new way.
*
No more excessive and mindless consumption
*
Let's sharpen our minds and garner our gumption.
*
For the ideas are simple, but the practice is hard,
*
And not to be won by a poem on a card.
*
It needs the ideas and the acts of each Who,
*
So let's get together and plan what to do!" * And so they all gathered
from all 'round the Earth
*
And from it all came a miraculous birth.
*
The hearts and the minds of the Whos they did grow,
*
Three sizes to fit what they felt and they know.
*
While the Grinches they shrank from their hate and their greed,
*
Bearing the weight of their every foul deed.
*
From that day onward the standard of wealth,
*
Was whatever fed the Whos' spiritual health.
*
They gathered together to revel and feast, * And thanked all who worked
to conquer their beast.
*
For although our story pits Grinches 'gainst Whos,
*
The true battle lies in what we daily choose.
*
For inside each Grinch is a tiny small Who,
*
And inside each Who is a tiny Grinch too.
*
One thrives on love and one thrives on greed.
*
Who will win out? It depends who you feed!
*

Bush's Propaganda Tour
During a propaganda tour, President Bush visits a school to explain his
politics to kids. He invites the kids to ask him questions. Bobby stands
up
and tells him "Mr. President, I got 3 questions":
1. How come, that although the count of votes was not in your favor, you
still won the election?
2. Why do you want to attack Iraq without an imminent reason?
3. Don't you also consider the bombing of Hiroshima the biggest
terrorist
attack of all times?
Before the president can answer, the recess bell rings, and the kids
leave
the room. After they came back, Bush invited them again to ask
questions.
Joey stands up and tells him "Mr. President, I got 5 questions":
1. How come, that although the count of votes was not in your favor, you
still won the election?
2. Why do you want to attack Iraq without an imminent reason?
3. Don't you also consider the bombing of Hiroshima the biggest
terrorist
attack of all times?
4. Why did the recess bell ring 20 minutes early?
5. Where's Bobby?

Navajo Code Talkers: World War II Fact Sheet Research by Alexander
Molnar Jr., U.S. Marine Corps/U.S. Army (Ret.) Prepared by the Navy &
Marine Corps WWII Commemorative Committee Related resources: American
Indian Medal of Honor Winners
Navajo Code Talkers in World War II: A Bibliography Navajo Code Talker
Dictionary
Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Peleliu, Iwo Jima: the Navajo code talkers took
part in every assault the U.S. Marines conducted in the Pacific from
1942 to 1945. They served in all six Marine divisions, Marine Raider
battalions and Marine parachute units, transmitting messages by
telephone and radio in their native language -- a code that the Japanese
never broke.
The idea to use Navajo for secure communications came from Philip
Johnston, the son of a missionary to the Navajos and one of the few
non-Navajos who spoke their language fluently. Johnston, reared on the
Navajo reservation, was a World War I veteran who knew of the military's
search for a code that would withstand all attempts to decipher it. He
also knew that Native American languages--notably Choctaw--had been used
in World War I to encode messages.
Johnston believed Navajo answered the military requirement for an
undecipherable code because Navajo is an unwritten language of extreme
complexity. Its syntax and tonal qualities, not to mention dialects,
make it unintelligible to anyone without extensive exposure and
training. It has no alphabet or symbols, and is spoken only on the
Navajo lands of the American Southwest. One estimate indicates that less
than 30 non-Navajos, none of them Japanese, could understand the
language at the outbreak of World War II. Early in 1942, Johnston met
with Major General Clayton B. Vogel, the commanding general of
Amphibious Corps, Pacific Fleet, and his staff to convince them of the
Navajo language's value as code. Johnston staged tests under simulated
combat conditions, demonstrating that Navajos could encode, transmit,
and decode a three-line English message in 20 seconds. Machines of the
time required 30 minutes to perform the same job. Convinced, Vogel
recommended to the Commandant of the Marine Corps that the Marines
recruit 200 Navajos.
In May 1942, the first 29 Navajo recruits attended boot camp. Then, at
Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, California, this first group created the
Navajo code. They developed a dictionary and numerous words for military
terms. The dictionary and all code words had to be memorized during
training.
Once a Navajo code talker completed his training, he was sent to a
Marine unit deployed in the Pacific theater. The code talkers' primary
job was to talk, transmitting information on tactics and troop
movements, orders and other vital battlefield communications over
telephones and radios. They also acted as messengers, and performed
general Marine duties.
Praise for their skill, speed and accuracy accrued throughout the war.
At Iwo Jima, Major Howard Connor, 5th Marine Division signal officer,
declared, "Were it not for the Navajos, the Marines would never have
taken Iwo Jima." Connor had six Navajo code talkers working around the
clock during the first two days of the battle. Those six sent and
received over 800 messages, all without error. The Japanese, who were
skilled code breakers, remained baffled by the Navajo language. The
Japanese chief of intelligence, Lieutenant General Seizo Arisue, said
that while they were able to decipher the codes used by the U.S. Army
and Army Air Corps, they never cracked the code used by the Marines. The
Navajo code talkers even stymied a Navajo soldier taken prisoner at
Bataan. (About 20 Navajos served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines.)
The Navajo soldier, forced to listen to the jumbled words of talker
transmissions, said to a code talker after the war, "I never figured out
what you guys who got me into all that trouble were saying." In 1942,
there were about 50,000 Navajo tribe members. As of 1945, about 540
Navajos served as Marines. From 375 to 420 of those trained as code
talkers; the rest served in other capacities. Navajo remained
potentially valuable as code even after the war. For that reason, the
code talkers, whose skill and courage saved both American lives and
military engagements, only recently earned recognition from the
Government and the public.
The Navajo Code Talker's Dictionary
When a Navajo code talker received a message, what he heard was a string
of seemingly unrelated Navajo words. The code talker first had to
translate each Navajo word into its English equivalent. Then he used
only the first letter of the English equivalent in spelling an English
word. Thus, the Navajo words "wol-la-chee" (ant), "be-la-sana" (apple)
and "tse-nill" (axe) all stood for the letter "a." One way to say the
word "Navy" in Navajo code would be "tsah (needle) wol-la-chee (ant)
ah-keh-di- glini (victor) tsah-ah-dzoh (yucca)." Most letters had more
than one Navajo word representing them. Not all words had to be spelled
out letter by letter. The developers of the original code assigned
Navajo words to represent about 450 frequently used military terms that
did not exist in the Navajo language. Several examples: "besh- lo" (iron
fish) meant "submarine," "dah-he- tih-hi" (hummingbird) meant "fighter
plane" and "debeh-li-zine" (black street) meant "squad." Department of
Defense Honors Navajo Veterans Long unrecognized because of the
continued value of their language as a security classified code, the
Navajo code talkers of World War II were honored for their contributions
to defense on Sept. 17, 1992, at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
Thirty-five code talkers, all veterans of the U.S. Marine Corps,
attended the dedication of the Navajo code talker exhibit. The exhibit
includes a display of photographs, equipment and the original code,
along with an explanation of how the code worked. Dedication ceremonies
included speeches by the then-Deputy Secretary of Defense Donald Atwood,
U.S. Senator John McCain of Arizona and Navajo President Peterson Zah.
The Navajo veterans and their families traveled to the ceremony from
their homes on the Navajo Reservation, which includes parts of Arizona,
New Mexico and Utah. The Navajo code talker exhibit is a regular stop on
the Pentagon tour.

Does President Bush Have Brain Damage? Does he have "Dry Drunk"
Syndrome?
George Bush is acting like he may have brain damage resulting from the
vast quantities of alcohol and drugs he consumed earlier in his life.
I noted in particular that his behavior during his press conference was
very peculiar and he never actually answered a single question but
ventured on a repetitive course of rhetoric that had nothing to do with
the original questions. Occasionally he would come back to a question
but never answer it.
After researching Dry Drunk Syndrome I was surprised to see so much
information about it:
What is the dry drunk syndrome?
Dry drunk is a slang term used by members and supporters of Alcoholics
Anonymous and substance abuse counselors to describe the recovering
alcoholic who is no longer drinking, one who is dry, but whose thinking
is clouded.
"Dry drunk" traits consist of:
Exaggerated self-importance and pomposity Grandiose behavior A rigid,
judgmental outlook
Impatience
Childish behavior
Irresponsible behavior
Irrational rationalization
Projection
Overreaction
Clearly, George W. Bush has all these traits except exaggerated self
importance.
Addiction, Brain Damage and the President:
http://www.counterpunch.org/wormer1011.html Heavy social drinkers show
signs of brain damage:
http://www.libertypost.org/cgi-bin/readart.cgi?ArtNum=45541 Bush drank
heavily for twenty years . . . George Bush: Dyslexia, Low I.Q. or Brain
Damage?
http://www.therationalradical.com/morons/george-bush.htm Bush has
suffered brain damage from alcohol and cocaine abuse. More Evidence that
Bush Is a "Dry Drunk"?
http://hnn.us/articles/3165.html
Dry Drunk Symptoms
http://mailman.io.com/pipermail/perfectuni...rch/000242.html Researchers
have found that brain chemistry irregularities caused by long bouts of
drinking or drug abuse cause "messages in one part of the brain to
become stuck there. This leads to maddening repetition of thoughts." One
of these powerful "stuck" thoughts, says van Wormer, is that "President
Bush seems unduly focused upon getting revenge on Saddam Hussein ('He
tried to kill my Dad'), leading the country and the world into war,
accordingly."
That clinches it!
I think we ought to demand a brain scan from bush before we let him run
for re-election . . .

Medicare Drug Cards a Raw Deal for Seniors
The truth about this lying administration.   Just another Republican
scam!
MEDICARE DRUG CARDS A RAW DEAL FOR SENIORS
Mark McClellan, the Administration's top Medicare official, claims that
the
new prescription drug cards being offered by the government will provide
"significant price reductions off typical retail prices" for seniors
[1]. But a
new study by the House Government Reform Committee reveals that
McClellan's
claim is not true - in fact, many seniors would pay more for drugs using
the
"discount" cards (which cost up to $30 a year) than they would paying
retail [2].
The study found that a one month supply of the ten best selling name
brand
drugs cost more using Medicare drug cards offered by Pharmacy Care
Alliance
($1,061), RxSavings ($1,046) or Walgreens ($990) than paying retail at
Drugstore.com ($959). In Canada the same drugs cost just $596 - 60% less
than the lowest priced drug card - but the Administration continues to
fight
the efforts of seniors to obtain affordable prescription drugs there.
[3]
Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson said that the
competition among providers will cause "prices to continue to fall." [4]
But
the restrictions the Administration has placed on which cards seniors
can
use makes that unlikely. Once seniors select a card they are locked in
until
the end of 2004 and can change only once - in the fall, when enrollment
for
next year's program begins. [5] Meanwhile, corporations offering drug
cards can
change their prices once a week. Even if the prices for prescription
drugs
rise dramatically with the card a senior selects, that senior cannot
switch
cards before 2005.

Reinstating The Draft
This is an interesting read in the link below about the impending
reinstatement of the draft, to force young people to be put in harm's
way to continue occupying Iraq on behalf of Bechtel and Halliburton.
Saddam's captive but the war still goes on. We should redistribute
Saddam's assets to the Iraqi people and let them rebuild there own
country and democratically decide how to be governed, and get the hell
out of there and fix our own country instead.
There's also something about Disney not releasing Michael Moore's new
film too on the side. Sign either or both petitions if you want.

....that can be found over on the southern end of Miami Beach, in the
area known as "South Beach". This shop is located right between
Washington Avenue to the east, and Euclid, to the west of it, and is on
the south side of sixth street. And it is open from 11:oo am to 8:00pm,
Mondays through Saturdays.
I have been shopping at this little shop for a long time. When you
walk into the shop, you will be immediately amazed at all of the many
things for sale,...a very wide assortment of items. There is everything
from men's and women's shoes, handbags, scarves, bandanas, belts, and
accessories, to many inexpensive oriental-themed statues, including my
long-time favourite, jolly "Ho Tai", as well as other oriental artifacts
& different types of statues of dragons, turtles, elephants, and
assorted kinds of women's jewelry. They also have something for which I
have no real name for, other than perhaps "miniature waterfalls",...with
some that sit on a table, and some that hang, and some that produce a
fine fog-like mist, that's pretty neat. Also sold there are many
different kinds of fragrant incense, of an assortment of delicious
scents, and the incense holders of different sizes and types to burn
them in.
The Lady whose shop it is, Lilly Sarraff, is a very kind,
warm-hearted friendly person, as are the other members of her family who
also work there sometimes. So the next time that you are on South Beach,
around 5th Street and Washington, you might want to take the time to go
check out this very interesting little shop. She is currently selling a
large carved green jade chinese ship that's pretty neat looking, that
you might want to check out. And they're having a sale on a heck of a
lot of nice-looking shoes and sandals, both casual and dress-type, that
are real bargains. Come see for yourself.   The shop is called,
"Sixth Place", and the address there is: 638 - 6th Street; Miami Beach,
Florida,...and the phone/Fax number is: 305-538-9987. [Updated:5/11/04]

25 SIGNS THAT, SADLY, YOU'VE GROWN UP :
1. Your houseplants are alive, and you can't smoke any of them.
2. Having sex in a twin bed is out of the question.
3. You keep more food than beer in the fridge.
4. 6:00 AM is when you get up, not when you go to bed.
5. You hear your favorite song on an elevator.
6. You watch the Weather Channel.
7. Your friends marry and divorce instead of hook up and break up.
8. You go from 130 days of vacation time to 14.
9. Jeans and a sweater no longer qualify as "dressed up."
10. You're the one calling the police because those d**n kids next door
won't turn down the stereo.
11. Older relatives feel comfortable telling sex jokes around you.
12. You don't know what time Taco Bell closes anymore.
13. Your car insurance goes down and your payments go up.
14. You feed your dog Science Diet instead of McDonalds leftovers.
15. Sleeping on the couch makes your back hurt.
16. You no longer take naps from noon to 6 PM.
17. Dinner and a movie is the whole date instead of the beginning of
one.
18. Eating a basket of chicken wings at 3 AM would severely upset,
rather than settle your stomach.
19. You go to the drug store for ibuprofen and antacid, not condoms and
pregnancy tests.
20. A $4.00 bottle of wine is no longer "pretty good stuff".
21. You actually eat breakfast food at breakfast time.
22. "I just can't drink the way I used to," replaces, "I'm never going
to drink that much again."
23. 90% of the time you spend in front of a computer is for real work.
24. You drink at home to save money before going to a bar.
25. You read this entire list looking desperately for one sign that
doesn't apply to you and can't find one to save your sorry old ass

The Thermodynamics of Hell
The following is an actual question given on University of Washington
chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the
professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet which is of
course,
why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well!
Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic
(absorbs heat)?
Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law
(gas cools off when it expands and heats up when it is compressed) or
some variant.
One student, however, wrote the following:
"First. we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time.
So we need to know the rate that souls are moving into Hell and the rate
they
are leaving. I think that we can
safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave.
Therefore no
souls are leaving.
As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different
religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state
that if you are
not a member of their religion you will go to Hell.
Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not
belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to
Hell. With birth and death rates as they
are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase
exponentially.
Now we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's
Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to
stay the same,
the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.
This gives two possibilities:
1) If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls
enter Hell, then the temperature and
pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
2) If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in
Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes
over?
So which is it?
If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman
year, "that it will be a cold day in Hell
before I sleep with you", and take into account the fact that I still
have not succeeded in having an affair with her, then #2 above cannot be
true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and will not freeze
over."
THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY "A".
