New here as I have been researching Cider Apple growing.  My intent here on Vancouver Island is to grow A LOT of cider apples.  10+ Acres.  I grew up in Somerset, UK was basically weaned on cider and still drink it most days.  Crown Float or Black and Tans being my tipple of the moment.

I'd like to know more about rolling the art of root stock propagation into expanding my orchard.  I want to grow Kingston Black, Yarlington Mill, Dabinett and other Somerset varieties of cider apples.  Medium term plan is to start up commercial cider production.

Glad to have you aboard. What zone is Vancouver Island? Variable I bet, depending on your elevation and inland vs coast. Check out Alan Yelvington's Youtube channel. He's in PA and is starting a hard cider operation. Kuffel Creek nursery in CA has a good rootstock propagation (MM111) video on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn9nzWr9Q1w
If I had the open land (mine is mostly forest) I would be turning a few acres into a commercial orchard too.
I've been having trouble keeping my seedling grafts alive their first year. This year I'll have a small greenhouse with which to protect them.
Post a Youtube video of your orchard when you get a chance. I'd love to see it (And some of that famous Vancouver Isand scenery!)
