GOOGLE APP ENGINE FOR JAVA DEVELOPERS
In this whirlwind tour of Google App Engine for Java Developers, Judes
Tumuhairwe will start with what Google App Engine is, and how it
differs from the other major cloud computing offerings available today
(i.e. Amazon Web Services EC2, Microsoft's Windows Azure and Apple's
iCloud). This introduction will then briefly cover Google App Engine's
architecture and the services it provides.
Digging further into using Java on Google App Engine, Judes will cover
how and when to use Google App Engine to develop and deploy Java Web
Applications. The design and architectural considerations required
will be discussed.
No discussion of web application development would be complete
without discussing the persistence options available. Google App
Engine uses BigTable, a NoSQL Key-Value datastore for data
persistence. Judes will discuss the details of how BigTable works. He
will demonstrate how to configure and connect to it and discuss the
advantages and disadvantages of BigTable vs Relational Databases.
All of this discussion would not be complete without a demonstration.
Judes will give a demo of deploying a pure Java Web Application onto
Google App Engine. In the process he will provide insights into the
process and share lessons learned.
