Hello, this is a query to gauge potential interest in bringing a Web Performance Meetup to Detroit.  Meetups focused on web performance are a new phenomenon that have been springing up across the country.  Here is a site that shows some active ones geographically on a map:

http://web-performance.meetup.com/

Since web performance is directly related to my full-time job, this is definitely an area that I am interested in very much.  I don't mind organizing this meetup, but before I do that I want to see how strong the interest might be from others in the local community in attending this type of meetup.

If you think you might attend this type of meetup, respond here or send me an email to let me know.  Be sure to check out the links at the bottom of this email to see the content from some existing groups.

Here are some links to a few of the existing Web Performance Meetup groups so you can see the type of content they cover:

I'd be interested.  I've been dealing with a lot of performance issues on the site I'm working on that has 19 million business listings.  Up until recently, I've mostly dealt with the application layer of stuff I work on so I never had to care about stuff like myISAM vs InnoDB and how various tables are indexed, for example.  There usually wasn't enough data to make a difference.  But no more!  I have to pay attention to that stuff if I want the site to be responsive and successful.  That includes other things besides the DB, like PHP opcode caching, page-caching, etc.  I'd love to have other folks to share these questions with.

I would be interested.  Obviously, this is a very broad topic, so specific things are of more interest to me, but in general, you can count me in.  Thanks,

Drew
