Dear GRC Working Group-

I am sending the minutes (in brief form) from this week’s GRC planning meeting.  Please note the next meeting will be a brown bag lunch meeting in two weeks to continue the planning process.

GRC Strategic Planning Meeting Minutes

October 11, 2011

Pick One Focus

This meeting was a continuation of the September planning meeting.  The purpose of this meeting was to allow every interested GRC member advocate for their “one thing” to focus on in 2012.  The “one” will be from the 22Ways- It’s Easy Being Green list, and will be the focus of GRC at all the various places that GRC has a presence (such as at Leap For Green, MI Farmers Market sustainability day, etc.).  Each person attending this week’s meeting was invited to propose their “one thing” and to advocate for it.  Then each person was given two votes to cast for their top items that they were willing to contribute energy and time promoting in 2012.  The results were:

Green Power:  8

Turn Down the Thermostat 68day/62night:  4

Water Heater down to 120 degrees:  2

Eliminate a car trip:  4

Green Power was the top vote, and the next meeting will be to meet with PSE staff to strategize next steps, clarify who at City needs to sign on to make this happen, and make sure that all proper protocols are followed to make this happen.

It was also agreed that 22Ways-It’s Easy Being Green III will be promoted in 2012.  The GRC will be looking for three new groups to take the challenge.

GRC Leadership Structure

The leadership structure for 2012 is to have two co-chairs (Elliot and Bruce) and a Steering Committee of dedicated volunteers who are willing to be regular attendees at the GRC meetings.  Other GRC members will be welcomed to participate as fully as they  wish, such as working on a specific event.  The public and interested people will always be invited and  welcome.

National Plug –In Day

Sunday, October 16, noon to 3, Luther Burbank Park.  GRC is co-sponsoring this event along with the City of Mercer Island.  Information to be sent separately for the event.   GRC Volunteers are welcome to help at this event!

Next meeting:

City Hall Caucus Room

Brown Bag Working Lunch

Tuesday, October 25

12 noon

Respectfully submitted,

Kirsten
