New Problem:

There is a bill  that needs to be passed in Albany. If it does not pass MHLS funding will be cut an additional $160,000 in 2010. We want the Legislature to pass the Education, Labor and Family Assistance (ELFA) Article VII bill that allows for the expenditure and distribution of Library Aid that includes Supplemental System Aid.

What To Do Now:

There is an easy way for you to help support passing this bill which only takes about 3minutes of your time. There is a prewritten letter that will automatically be e-mailed to your state representatives with your signature on it. To do this go to

http://nyla.org/index.php?page_id=925, click on “Take Action”, click on “Urge Legislature to Pass Legislation Authorizing Release of Library Aid”, click on “Email”, fill in your name and address, click “Send”.

The Legislature may return before the end of August to accept and appropriate the federal funds recently approved to help states rehire teachers and school librarians laid off and to cover Medicaid expenses so they can be allocated to school districts before the start of the school year.  When they return, we also want them to pass the ELFA Article VII bill so please ACT NOW!!! and ask others to do so as well.

Thanks!
