Subject: [NYLINE] NYLA Legislative Alert - Legislative Special Session
Scheduled for Tuesday, November 10th to Consider Mid-Year Cuts
Dear Library Advocate, the state Legislature will be holding a Special Session tomorrow at noon at the request of the Governor to consider his proposed $3 billion mid-year State Budget cuts which includes a $3.375 million cut in Library Aid.
The Senate Democrats have released their own Deficit Reduction Plan that calls for no cuts to education (including libraries). The Assembly Democrats have indicated they are willing to accept a limited amount of the Governor’s proposed cuts , but no agreement has been reached at this point.
So there is still time to contact your state legislators to urge them to reject the Governor’s proposed cuts to Library Aid. Visit www.nyla.org and click on Contact Your Elected Officials button. In addition, I testified last week at Senate Budget Hearing regarding the proposed cuts and you can see a copy of my testimony under Headlines.
