Your help is needed to tell the library story to our state legislators.
Register online today: http://midhudson.org/funding/advocacy/main.htm
The complete appointment schedule will be distributed later this week but we
wanted to give all of you who are driving yourselves up a tip that it would
be important to make it to the 8:30am Legislative Breakfast in Meeting Room
6 of the Empire State Plaza Concourse [map of the concourse area is
available at http://midhudson.org/funding/advocacy/main.htm]. Many
legislators who know they will be too busy later in the day to meet
face-to-face with library representatives make time to come to this
breakfast. This is an excellent opportunity to have some time with your
legislators. (If NYLA is able to confirm who will be there I'll post that
info ASAP.)
There are some "pre-Lobby Day Events" being held on Monday, March 12th:
1)Ya Wanna Win?: How to Plan and Execute Library Referendum Campaigns
Don't know where to start? Need to teach others how to do it? Frustrated
with trying to develop a compelling message? Need help organizing? This
workshop will give you the who, what, why, when and how of referendum
campaigns.
Learn how to organize a referendum campaign including:
. Filling key positions
. Developing your message and getting it to the voters
. Answering the opposition
. Organizing phone banks and door to door canvassing
. Using IT to track your support
. Getting people out to vote.
Presenter:
Libby Post, President of Communication Services, helped 28 out of 30
libraries in the Mid-Hudson Library System win their referendum campaigns in
2005-06 through her innovative Library Campaign Training Institute. MHLS
hired Post for its "Get to Yes" project. A seasoned campaign consultant,
Post also has over 20 years of experience in not for profit branding,
marketing, public relations and fund raising. She is now taking her
electoral campaign experience and putting it to work for libraries and
library systems.
