All That Lies Between Us: Documentary Film Screening, Q&A With Filmmakers and Reception April 18, 2013 Lecture Hall 07 7PM | Contact: Website: | Blending interviews, poetry, photography, and music, All That Lies Between Us is a moving account of the life and work of Binghamton University Professor, Maria Mazziotti Gillan, the award-winning author and poet whose humble upbringing in an Italian-American enclave of Paterson inspired much of her writing and led her to establish innovative and highly respected literary ventures in that historic city, including the Poetry Center at Passaic County Community College. The documentary incorporates images of Paterson that juxtapose sad urban decay with thrilling natural wonders, and remnants of an industrial past with scenes from contemporary life. After the film, participate in a Q&A with filmmakers, meet Maria Mazziotti Gillan and enjoy music and refreshments. This screening is co-sponsored by the English Department and CCE. |
A Series on Asian American Culture for National Library Week April 20th, 12-5pm Broome County Public Library Decker Room 185 Court St., Binghamton | Contact: Center for Civic Engagement Website: | Come and explore the colorful themes and histories of important Asian holidays, such as Chinese Lunar New Year, Korean Lunar New Year, and Filipino traditions of Christmas. Included will be a visual presentation with arts and crafts accessible to adults and children. Join us and learn what makes these holidays and histories so important for communities abroad and in the United States. More to Live For: Documentary Film Screening and Bone Marrow Donor Registration Event April 17 Screenings, UU108: 12-1:50, 2-3:20 Donor Registration, UU Tillman Lobby: 12-4 | Contact: Center for Civic Engagement Website: | More to Live For chronicles the life and struggle of legendary saxophonist, Michael Brecker, whose search for a compatible, life-saving, bone marrow donor was ultimately unsuccessful. Brecker passed tragically in 2007 after a hard-fought battle with leukemia. Since the film was first shown, thousands of people have signed up for the International Bone Marrow Donor Registry, each of them a potential life saver. Come watch the film at either showing time and register yourself for the donor registry via a simple cheek swab. The film’s producer, Susan Brecker, will also be on hand to answer questions and assist with registering donors. |

Helping Hands Food Drive The Campus Department Challenge | Contact: | On April 30th there will be a food drive accepting donations of non-perishable goods in the Tillman Lobby from 12pm to 8pm. Each donation should be labeled with the name of the campus department that it comes from. The department that has the largest number of donated item will receive a $500 credit courtesy of Binghamton University Dining Services. A Reminder to Graduating Seniors to fill out the Senior Survey | Graduating seniors in all schools have received an email directing them a short online survey. It asks about immediate plans upon graduation so that the University can better understand what pathways students choose and characteristics of those distinct paths. The University is also required to report this key information in the aggregate to ensure continued accreditation and funding certain programs. | |

The CHOW Farm provides food to local soup kitchens and food pantries all over the Southern Tier. They provide fresh, local, nutrient dense foods to families in need, but in order to produce, they need your assistance.
