Hey everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful winter vacation and are ready to do
some outreach. If you are new to outreach or are a bit rusty on some
aspects, we will have a training session on Monday, January 26 from 4
to 6pm at the Shatner building (student services building) room 403.

For the people who are new to outreach, this is a excerpt from our
manual describing the gist of the workshop:

Workshop participants are essentially transformed into a community in
rural Zambia. Each individual receives a profile that highlights their
role in the village and their relation to HIV/AIDS – whether they are
infected or affected by the virus. Through a series of scenarios, the
group tracks the direct impacts of the disease on individuals‘ lives,
as well as its wider repercussions on the village. These scenarios
will focus on HIV/AIDS‘ impact a family, on Zambia‘s education
and health systems, and access to AIDS treatment. Facilitated
by workshop presenters, participants will be encouraged to identify
and discuss the consequences of each scenario. Finally, participants
will be left with practical strategies for taking action against HIV/
AIDS, such as peer-education, letter writing, and fundraising.
