Our people's response to the issue of Chika Echendu continues to give me chills anytime I think of it which is almost every time. What makes it more divine in nature is that, to MFU members, nothing unusual happened. It is just part of the tapestry of our normal
life. When the appeal hit the internet, the response was instantaneous. Nobody paused to ask questions some of which might have been very relevant. What was of the greatest concern to everybody was, how could we get our brother out of his distress.
Though the issue will bring certain issues to the front burner in our union, that is the way it should be. Events shape the life and history of an organisation. When an event highlights a weakness in the structure of an organisation, it becomes necessary to
address it. That's what makes the union organic.
The purpose of this short piece is to let MFU members know that I can't appreciate you enough, I can't be more proud of the you. You heard the question: Am I my brother's keeper? You answered loud and clear: YES. WE ARE. UDO DIRI UNU.
