2. Marblehead Festival of Arts to Host Winter Film Festival
Marblehead MA (January 25, 2012) – To bring some warmth to a bitter cold night, come to the Winter Film Festival sponsored by the Marblehead Festival of Arts. The Festival is set for Thursday, February 16 at 7:30 pm, with doors opening at 7 pm. Eleven films, ranging in length from two to 14 minutes, will be screened at Marblehead Little Theatre, 12 School Street in Marblehead. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.
The selected pieces show the many ways that film and video can be used as an art form to inform and express. They are not commercial films found in a standard multiplex. Although some of these works can certainly be enjoyed by children, not all of the films will be appropriate for young audiences. Parents are encouraged to review the lineup.
2012 Winter Film Festival Program
Stalker: Damien Patrik: (2 minutes)
A man is stalked in downtown Denver … by himself. Patrik is an actor, writer, editor and film producer.
The Impossible Journey: John Bonner (7:11 minutes)
This personal documentary about one Marbleheader’s bike ride from Marblehead to Boston shows how, by persistence, courage and very observant drivers, it can be done!
Howna and Manny: Jared Katsiane (10 minutes)
Two young women encounter each other outside the JFK Building while waiting for their parents to settle their immigration issues. Katsiane is a prolific maker of short films, one of which won an award as one of the year’s best New England short works.

Just About Famous: Matt Mamula (14 minutes)
This is a hilarious documentary about a convention of celebrity lookalikes: Oprah, Kenny Rogers, Sarah Palin, Bill Clinton, George Bush—you’ll meet them all!
Beneath the Same Sky: Dan Masucci: (13 minutes)
A regular participant in the Film Festival, Masucci returns with an emotional story about the relationship between a father and his son. The boy is troubled by the absence of his mother, a soldier in the Middle East.
Fernando’s First Snow: Jared Katsiane (4 minutes)
This film is the Boston filmmaker’s affecting and poetic story in which a man recalls his first snow, when an elderly man helps him retrieve a scarf from a tree.
God and Dog: Wendy Francisco (2 minutes)
The filmmaker offers a short animated music video about being loved by both the characters in the title. Francisco, a Boson-born musician living in Colorado, also animated the film.
Pie Heist: Steve Baldwin (7:16 minutes)
This former Beverly resident is a prolific filmmaker with many awards to his credit. His comedy deals with the lengths one man will go to evade his self-appointed dietician and appropriate his favorite sugary treat.
Trampoline: Dan Masucci (6 minutes)
This is a story of a father-daughter excursion that turns into an interior excursion for the father.
Twist of Fate: Karen Aqua (8:40 minutes)
This award-winning Boston area animator and past Film Festival contributor has created an animated film about her bout with a serious illness.
Zen and the Art of Landscaping: David Kartch (14 Minutes)
A young landscaper encounters more trouble on the inside of a suburban household than the exterior. This is a Film Festival Legacy showing, first screened in 2001!
3. Marblehead Festival of Arts Summer Film Festival Call for Entries
This summer, show your film outdoors in front of lots of people.
Marblehead, MA (January 31, 2012) – The 2012 Marblehead Festival of Arts Film Festival, to be held outdoors in Marblehead’s scenic Crocker Park during the June 30—July 4 holiday, is seeking innovative short film/video entries in narrative, documentary, animation, experimental and dance/performance categories. Works can be either comedy or drama, with comedies being especially welcome. There is no entry fee. The entry deadline is Friday, April 13, 2012.
Both aspiring and seasoned filmmakers are encouraged to submit their work. Participating artists will have the opportunity to win the People’s Choice Award based on audience balloting and Best of Show Award selected by the Festival committee. Additionally, selected films may also be screened during the Winter Film Festival, to be held in February 2013.

4. Marblehead Festival of Arts Presents Art Auction
Marblehead MA (February 11, 2012) – The Marblehead Festival of Arts Art Auction is set for Saturday, April 14 at Abbott Hall, 188 Washington Street. The evening will include a silent auction beginning at 5 pm. Auctioneer Gene Arnould will commence with the live auction at 7:15.
Among the items to be auctioned are unique original art and jewelry by recognized regional artists, gift baskets, gourmet food and wine, floral arrangements, professional services, concert and theatre tickets, and gift certificates to specialty shops, inns and restaurants. Delicious hors d’oeuvres and musical entertainment will round out the evening.
Tickets will be $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Details will be found on the Festival website, www.MarbleheadFestival.org.
