Marblehead Festival of Arts Features Artisans’ Marketplace
Marblehead MA (June 25, 2010) – The Marblehead Festival of Arts (MFoA) announces the return of the very popular Artisans’ Marketplace, a showcase of artists’ wares for sale. A highlight of the Festival, the Artisans’ Marketplace will be held outside Abbott Hall, 188 Washington Street, on Sunday, July 4 from 10 am until 5 pm; and on Monday, July 5 from 10 am until 4 pm. The Marketplace showcases a variety of arts and crafts works at many different price levels. The Marketplace will be home for 39 artisans along with the Marblehead Arts Association, which will be conducting the Mermaid and Scallop shell silent auction to help fund its arts scholarship.
New artisans include David Barber, Tinkers Island Fish; Amalia Flaisher, Sand and Water Creation; Susan Kenna, Artfelt Creations; Teri Macmillan, Surfside Studio; Hope Manseau, Canterbury Yarns; Diane Wheeler, Creative Basketry; Frank Yeatman Woodworking; and author Richard Wood. After a 10-year hiatus, jeweler Sonja Grondstra is rejoining the show. Favorite returnees include Michael McCarthy, Mattapoisett Bird Works demonstrating carving; Lark Roderiques; Jeff Mentuck of Marblehead Glassworks; Martha Quigley, Landfall Gallery; and Kiki Taron Kinney of QuitsaKiki Designs, demonstrating Soumak Weaving and Chain Maille.
The Marblehead Festival of Arts will run from July 1-5, with art exhibits open Saturday, July 3, 10 am to 5 pm; Sunday July 4,, noon to 5 pm; and Monday, July 5, 10 am to 5 pm. Exhibits include Crafts, Drawing, Mixed Media, Painting, Painting-the-Town, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture; and special exhibits include Senior Art, Youth Art, Student Art, Logo Art and a guest exhibit by ArcWorks. Admission is free.
The challenges of parking in downtown Marblehead can be avoided by parking at Marblehead High School, 2 Humphrey Street, and using the free Festival Trolley which will run Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.
