Also, I've been reading Brilliant, which traces the history of artificial lighting. It's fascinating. Whale oil was predominantly used to light lamps for over 100 years, then gas was piped in. Lighting before electricity was marred with bad smells (it was fat or fish for a long time), soot, and explosions. I'm just getting up to electricity.
