Needed a day to read and not make. Read more Jon Kolko, Exposing the Magic of Design. I decided to make an overlay of Kolko and Paul Rand, IxD vs. Graphic Design, and keep comparing and contrasting the systems, the methods, the terminology, etc.
In addition, Prachi mentioned going to a brown bag lunch with Jack Cheung who spoke about the Slow Web Movement. "Fast Web is destination-based. Slow Web is interaction-based." Read his blog posts on the subject. I keep wanting to fold in aspects of time and sequence into the interaction Design toolkit as they are in the Graphic Design toolkit. Slow Web, finite reading (Craig Mod), attention and reading (Robin Sloan), all ideas that are found inherent in time and sequence in graphic design.
Thought about web apps that take a Slow Web approach and add design as the central feature next to time. The one I think of first is Readability. I's not perfect, but it's better than reading massive amounts of text at small point sizes surrounded by ads. Need to keep applying time, sequence and design to every web interaction to see if slowing things down and adding design adds measurably to the experience.
