I'm currently looking into The History of Older People. That's not a book -- just a search term I'm using.
I think it's helping me a little bit. Other reading materials welcome!!! (I'm just reading blogposts and articles on google now)
I think we are losing something by excluding old people (even if it's unintentionally). It's the same reason I feel bad about digital photography and the loss of real family albums. Or imagining all the family albums that stopped getting filled around the year 2000.
For me, it's about slowing down.

On the "what to make side", I don't know how to connect the two or if it's possible in a clever (not tacky nor contrived) way, I would like to do something using low tech. Lo-fi.

Think the following:
smart materials - heat sensitive ink, glow ink, inks that emit smells when charged with electricity, etc. i'm sure you're familiar with these.

Here's one that helps people and involves them in the process

I also realized I've only been looking at this from practical and scientific points of view. I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier, to look at things from a historical perspective. A lot of the projects that resonate with me have this as their inspiration. Thanks to the rest of you (tash, et al.) who have started structuring yours more :)

Also, I realized that what gets me excited is this situation:

GASP!!! *eyes wide open* WHAT IF...!!!?!?!?

Examples from some of my school projects:
-what if we could stop time?
-what if we could control our computers with objects?

Creating mini worlds, alternate realities (that could become realities, period.), parallel universes.
