- I'm chatting with an architect from
AtFab tomorrow, about their open-source CNC furniture.
Thinking
- Briefly considered shifting my final artifact from an interface, object, and system, to simply a short film (or series of) illustrating possible futures in a world of "responsive interiors" (mass-customised temporary furniture), ala berg. After a chat with Amit, I realise this is a bit extreme, and I should still make interface and physical prototypes, but i'm planning on putting much more emphasis toward the storytelling / cinematic component.
- Mike Kuniavsky seems interested in a very similar space, am planning to reach out to chat with him. Allison Shaw sent me the following notes from a talk of his she was at last week, where he discussed digital fabrication "Most people don't want to design everything—just the things they care about. They want to be consumers for the rest of it... They want professionals for that stuff. ... The key missing piece is collaborative design, distributed design tools. Working together to create a shared understanding if what is being made." Also, this was unprompted, Allison didn't know my thesis area.
