So I'm thinking maybe the md5 is bad?? My requirements file only has mezzanine in it (since I want the most recent?)

It seems that there is no entry for 1.4.7 on this page: http://g.pypi.python.org/packages/source/M/Mezzanine/

afaik, stephenmcd is the only one who can push new versions up. now that he knows about the problem, i'm sure he'll sort it asap.

I'm not sure what that URL is (some cache server I believe) but if you go to the main PyPi page for Mezzanine you'll see 1.4.7 is the latest:

I can also pip install and 1.4.7 is picked up:

$ pip install mezzanine
Downloading/unpacking mezzanine
  Downloading Mezzanine-1.4.7.tar.gz (5.4Mb): 5.4Mb downloaded
  Running setup.py egg_info for package mezzanine
