We talked about this shortly with the new Nonviolence for Daily Living
group yesterday. We touched on separating the evil from the person and
how forgiveness between the two (the mother and the killer) led to the
healing of one another. The first thing that came to mind when reading
this was from movie "Gandhi," with the passage below:
Nahari: I'm going to Hell! I killed a child! I smashed his head against a wall.
Gandhi: Why?
Nahari: Because they killed my son! The Muslims killed my son!
[indicates boy's height]
Gandhi: I know a way out of Hell. Find a child, a child whose mother
and father have been killed and raise him as your own.
[indicates same height]
Gandhi: Only be sure that he is a Muslim and that you raise him as one.
We also talked about the prison system and how this related to
restorative justice. I think this is a great story to bring up for our
next Hope Tank.
Peace,
Nicholas
