An open space for global conversationA message to all members of Occupy Cafe
Two powerful pieces written this week on the interplay of violence, uprising and love seed our latest conversation, beginning now on the Occupy Cafe forum and continuing live on this Monday's Cafe Call from 8-10am Pacific/11am-1pm Eastern.
Rebecca Solnit's "Mad, Passionate Love -- and Violence: Occupy Heads into the Spring" beautifully contrasts the violence in the world that gave birth to Occupy and that which emerged both in response to and within the movement. Phil Rokstroh's "Cash Of The Titans: Against The Noxious Fantasy Of Limitless Growth" is a poetic howl against the cliches of civility and incrementalism at a time "when feedback loops of methane gas are melting arctic ice at an exponential rate,... the powers that be continue their pursuit of ruthless agendas that perpetuate this death-worshiping trajectory [and] it is evident that politics as usual has failed."
Both pieces call us urgently into action, grounded in the transformative power of love. How is your love calling you to action? And how does that love stay strong in the face of a violent system that seeks to provoke fear, despair and violence in return?
