We are planning a series of Today's Disciples Basic Class at West
Allis Calvary UMC, Jan 12-Feb 9, 2012, for 6:30 - 8:30 pm on the 5
Thursdays.
Today's Disciple in Lay Servant Ministries – West Allis: Calvary UMC –
Jan-Feb
This is a foundational course that lays the framework for leadership
in preaching, story telling, stewardship, youth ministries, caring
ministries and many more areas.
The course is being coordinated by Tom Bolton, a Lay Servant at First
United Methodist Church of West Allis.
The sessions will be led by Pastor Rachel Olson and several Lay
Servants from the Milwaukee Metro Region.
The Calvary UMC building is very accessible.
Pre-Registration
Targeting: New members, current members, and all leaders, including
lay members to annual conference, lay leaders, council members,
committee members, teachers, lay speakers and aspiring lay speakers,
etc.
Topics: servant and spiritual leadership; caring ministries; basic
communication skills; sharing your faith; leading meetings; resources
and opportunities.
Text: Lay Speaking Ministries, Participant's Book: Basic Course, by
Sandy Zeigler Jackson & Brian Jackson.

First Assignment:
Read Chapter 1 of the Participants Book and the biblical reflections.
Take notes and list questions.
If possible read paragraph 103 from the 2008 Book of Discipline,
"Pages 41-86 - Part II - DOCTRINAL STANDARDS AND OUR THEOLOGICAL
TASK", "SECTION 3—OUR DOCTRINAL STANDARDS AND GENERAL RULES”.
