I attended LISA2014 in Seattle last week, and met Dieter after his session on the top.

I really like what's been put together so far and am here to start contributing.

The core of Metrics 2.0 really similar to a lot of conversations and implementations I've contributed to over the past few years. I'd really like to see this effort gain some traction and wider adoption across the domain.

Hi Jesse, it was good meeting you too.
I think there's 2 main things we should tackle:

1) adoption in monitoring agents / software that submits metrics. we have many pieces in place (aggregation, storage, dashboards, alerting) but we have very little software that emits m2.0 metrics natively, and this would really help visibility / low barrier to entry, helping adption.

2) rethinking some of the concepts (what tag, unit tag, metric identity is a set of tags versus identity is a string key and some tags). there's already been some talk about this in other threads and i'ld like to tackle this subject piece by piece in the "rethinking metrics 2.0" thread.
