I think you mean Dropwizard Metrics (https://metrics.dropwizard.io/) and not Dropwizard (https://www.dropwizard.io/).

I understand that Dropwizard 5.0 has support for tags so could anyone shed some more light on the release plan for Dropwizard 5.0?

There's currently no scheduled release date for Dropwizard Metrics 5.0.0.

You can find more details in https://github.com/dropwizard/metrics/issues/1704.

In the end it's lacking active contributions and the current maintainers don't have time to work on the release/5.0.x branch.

If you're interested in getting Dropwizard Metrics 5.0.x out of the door, your best chance is by actively contributing to the release. ;-)
