The first class will include the basics of Drosophila husbandry:

1. Fruits flies as model organism: History

2. Basic lab husbandry. How to grow them, how to take care of them in different environmental conditions.

3. Over crowding, mites, bacterial and fungal infections and other trouble shooting to grow healthy cultures

4. Making fly media

5. Different visible phenotypes and markers

6. Setting up crosses

7. Synchronising the flies for experiments

8. Different methods to anaesthetise the flies

9. Microinjection of DNA in embryos
