meteor and custom child jobs

The recent question on mongodb reconnects made
me think about meteor as a controller for child
jobs.
What would it take to add custom apps to the
list that meteor controls and auto-restarts
when they die?
We use DJB's daemontools currently, but this
could simplify our stack and give us a "built
in" web API to control daemons.
