X3D is an evolution of the VRML standard. A good place to start
looking for information is at the Web3D Consortium ( http://www.web3d.org/
).

The X3D spec is located here:
http://www.web3d.org/x3d/specifications/ISO-IEC-19776-1.2-X3DEncodings-XML/index.html

For you Java developers, the Xj3D project will be of interest:
http://www.xj3d.org/

The last time I created a Wonderland world, was back in the 0.4 days.
Back then, they used X3D as a native format for their in-world
geometry. -d

Excellent Doug, thanks for the pointers!

My summer intern Felipe is excited to stand up some of these MU
systems ... and use X3D as a content language.

I think we would like to compare and contrast Bubblecloud /
Deepmatrix.org
and Xj3D and Instantreality.org

(w/ java and instant player (all our VT platforms including CAVE) can
share X3D spaces, objects and events)
Our test server should be up next week...! :->
