I know there are some participants on this forum who have read/studied my earlier book, “An Introduction to Awareness,” and I want to announce that I have taken a different tack with publishing my new book, “Tranquillity’s Secret.”
For one, I am publishing it on Medium. It’s behind Medium’s paywall, but I’m going to post a link to a pdf that contains the full table of contents of what is there already, along with their “friends links” that allow you to bypass the paywall.
The book is still in process, but I think the most relevant material for this forum is in the “Proem” section, which is roughly 300+ pages-equivalent. The proem is not primarily a philosophical exposition of a position, but rather my arguments for why we are wrong about so much—an “unsaying” of philosophical positions and commonplace notions—like what “sound” is (using the scientific explanations that you all know and love, but showing how your understanding is completely wrong).
The book is actually a book on meditation and its ’fruit’, from a basic meditation practice to the one that takes you all the way to full enlightenment. Those practices are not published on Medium yet, although I heartily recommend to you the introduction to the practices section, in which I illustrate what needs to happen in order to reach full enlightenment (i.e. what it means practically). It’s an interesting article which incorporates Plotinus, Buddha, Avalokitasvara, Jigme Lingpa, Xu Yun (who died in 1959 at the certified age of 120) and the anonymous Christian Mystic that wrote “The Cloud of Unknowing.” This is the link, if you want a taste:

You may not be interested in any of the meditation stuff for an actual practice, but the stages of meditation described may be of interest to you because they are the increasingly rarified states of “samadhi” that one passes through, until you get to the stage with there is only an open clear non-symbolic cognizance (but “cognizance” has a somewhat different sense at that stage). And I mean, no you, no that or it, no thought, no judgements, no concepts, no distinctions, no time flow, no Now—clear means clear. But the most amazing things come out of it.
Medium estimates the reading time for all the published content now stands at over a thousand hours. But its all organized into articles (medium calls them “stories”), so you can take smaller bits to see if the whole is of any interest to you.
If you are interested in being notified of the new material, you can “follow” the publication or myself on Medium. If you don’t want to become a member of Medium, just contact me and I’ll put you on my email list for the updates with Friends Links to the new articles. That will be about once a month.
Thanks for you time.
James
