This is a reminder about the specialized seminar of the International Association for Researching and Applying Metaphor (RaAM), which will be held at Palacio de Valdeparaiso (Almagro, Spain), 5-7 May 2011.

A small number of bursaries are available for PhD students.
As an association, RaAM strives to advance the study of metaphor, metonymy and other aspects of figurative thought and expression, with a commitment to the application of metaphor research to 'real world' issues. In the present seminar, the theme will be “Metaphor across Time and Genre”.
The organisers plan to highlight the socio-cultural as well as the situational quality of metaphor as historically expanded and manifested in such situated social practices as the genres that articulate the communicative interaction of discourse communities of various types. The seminar is organized in a vertical manner, in that there will be only one session at a time. It is hoped people will attend everything, as well as chat, make contacts, renew old ones, and have fun, plus have time to discuss their own research with everybody.
