GSoC 2012 project Metalink 4.0 (.meta4) support

Hello

I am a student of Computer Science Engineering at National Institute of Technology, Srinagar. I can program in C/C++, PHP, Javascript, SQL, but mostly program in C. 

This is my first time trying to participate in GSoC. And also i have no history of involvement with open source. Since this is my first time i'm looking to start with something simple, i found the project idea Metalink 4.0 (.meta4) support in libmetalink interesting. I have been going through the source the source online and the project seems doable.

What kind of prior experience do you expect from a student looking to work on that project? Also what else should i be doing other than installing the tools and reading and building the source?

we don't expect any prior experience from a student besides experience
with the language & programming in general.

that's good, look over the source, build it.

the author, Tatsuhiro, should be able to answer any questions you have.

keep in mind that this is marked as easy & would not be enough of a
proposal to fill a whole summer's worth of work. :)
