Google Summer of Code, KDE, and Internet Standards
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lots of Metalink news recently, but the most time sensitive is our involvement in Google Summer of Code again.

"Google Summer of Code is a global program that gives university students a stipend to write code for open source projects over a three month period. Accepted students are paired with a mentor from the participating projects, gaining exposure to real-world software development and the opportunity for future employment in areas related to their academic pursuits. Best of all, more source code is created and released for the use and benefit of all." - http://google-opensource.blogspot.com/2012/03/new-kind-of-summer-job-open-source.html

Submit your proposal via the Google Summer of Code program website from today through Friday, April 6 at 19:00 UTC.

KDE

KGet, the download manager in KDE, has supported Metalinks for a while, but now the KDE project itself is using MirrorBrain and Metalinks for distribution.

Internet Standards

Two RFCs describe Metalink:

Metalink/XML : RFC 5854 : http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5854
Metalink/HTTP : RFC 6249 : http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6249
